Hilarious it's like hey guys, show me your IP addys.....doesn't matter, it's probably logged and I'd assume your computer is sitting behind some sort of switch/router/firewall device. Some of my coworkers (they tend to be single, not married with kids) do without landlines and highspeed internet at home, as our co. issues BlackBerrys and laptops with the built in EVDO. I suppose the 56K warnings do apply to the latter, but imho not necessary.

I have Cable, no other choice.
That said, I usually end up using EDGE on my iPhone, since Time Warner sucks and the connection goes out every 45 minutes for 10 minutes, and theres nothing they can do but waste my time tinkering in my basement and giving me an oh-so-generous dollar off my bill. Add to that that Verizon just sold out of Maine so no FiOS.

Serious speed though at school

I have not come across any myself but that's what I hear. Apparently, only on the Western hemisphere ...and you have to ask for it nicely

56K is pretty awesome for everything except watching video online. In my opinion, 56K was the biggest jump ever for modem performance. Remember, you can only fit a max. of 33.6K of data through regular phone lines so when I heard about 56K modems, I thought it was a joke.

I was fortunate to use Fiber optic connection when I was in high school and I believe my high school was the first one in North America. Ahhh, this was back in 1993 so it was extremely advanced to have Fibre Optic connection to the Internet back then.

I started surfing the web using 14.4bps and it was slow but I could still access a lot of sites just for information but graphics just took a little too long for loading but it was worth it!

I've used 2400bps, 14.4 bps, 28.8bps, 33.6bps ,56k, DSL, cable, Fiber and T1. My favourite? T1 and Fiber for their speed.

But I really fell in love with 56K and DSL because they were just a breakthrough for regular phone line.

Currenty, I'm using cable and it's above average. Cable used to be really bad in reliability, but they're getting better.

And I still remember the days when it took 15 minutes to download a megabyte.

If they're still stuck in the rural communities, I guess they'll be still using 56K.
