Here is a better view of this portion of the passenger seat for context. I was able to successfully remove the nut/bolt on this side.

hahaha - we have all been there! I have made numerous silly mistakes wrenching on things. I have finally learned to walk away sometimes. In most instances I come back and figure the problem out instantly.

So my seat wasn't perfectly centered and aligned the way I initially mounted it. Went back and got things sorted, changed a few things around and used spacers on only one side of the seat. Happy to talk anyone through this if you want some advice, the changes made a big difference!

Since this seems to be my mistake thread ... I also shorted my wiring while I was moving the seat around and blew a fuse. Luckily there are two fuses for the seat electronics and I just swapped them for now since I only have the driver's seat in at the moment.

To avoid this in the future I went back and properly heat shrink wrapped all of the leads, highly suggested!

Can't wait to rock this setup and the re-installed MCS at the track next weekend!

Proper heat shrink wrapping of leads:

Need to make a few changes to the car and this looks like it'll work. Op I've sent you pm.

Mobbin I'll be sending you a pm soon too about the slider setup.

I answered via text

In short, I think you'll be fine. I remove the rear two bolts of the BK bar for every track day to fit tires in the back so you'd just be adding two.

Great thread guys!

I have a pair of Cobra Evolution Pro-Fit that I will be moving over to the M3 , from my Z4MC.
It made my day when I saw this thread & the BK mounts on the OE power rails!

My one thought re the BK mounts was, how much lower can I get my racing buckets compared to the OE power seats.
The other with the harness bar.... I was surprised to see that they use stainless steel for the bar.

One other question (not BK related) is what most guys do with the pensioner belt latch.

I see a lot of them up the outside of the seat, but thats not really providing proper restraint.
It really should come up though the port on the side of the seat the same way that the harness belt does.

Anyone found a good solution????

Power rails almost makes me wish i had power seats originally. It seems almost decadent to have a race seat with power!

I don't know how much lower it is. If you call them I'm sure they know

I don't have a good solution. I have the same setup as the guy in the pic

The GTS has an extra wide hole in the seat for the 3 point latch to happily fit through properly. Doesn't seem like any aftermarket seat has that

depending on the seat, your head should be 1.5-3" lower than with the stock seat, in the low position on the mount.

The Cobra Nogaro plays nicely with a factory 3 point receiver-- far and away the main reason I went with them in my car!

Lots of people use the factory rear middle belt receiver on the e46, on the front seats, to be able to feed it through the lap belt hole on aftermarket seats (as it's not rigid like the factory front receivers). If it clips with the e9X front seatbelts, might make sense to use it there, too. Or maybe the e90/e60 rear middle receiver. That said, that solution does lose the pretensioner functionality of the stock front receiver.

Thanks

On my Z4MC, I used the rear seat receiver from an E92 in order to feed it through the hole.
Like you say, the pretensioner is lost that way.

I really love the deep buckets and halos on my Cobra Evo's, so no plans to change them out.

........So, which is better?(safer).
  • Pretensioner with receiver outside the seat shell
  • No pretensioner with receiver in proper position through the hole in seat shell

No pretensioner with proper contact/placement with your body is the lesser evil.

I feed my belt through the inboard hole then buckle in. Takes a few more seconds but can’t do much about it (unless I want to gain 100 lbs).

I'm so sorry but I never wrote this down. See the photo in post #57 of this thread for the best guide though, should be able to sort it from that.

I'm planning to make a PnP harness for this so the the seats are easier to a swap in and out.
It will be a few weeks until I get to it but I'll post the info when I do.

A standard Profi XL is what's in the M3 GTS and the lap belt holes are large enough to allow the receiver to sit inboard. I had profi XL's in the past and routed them that way.

If anyone has anymore info on the Cobra specific version of these seat mounts, please let us know. Anxious to see what they are like and if they might allow me to run w/o side shims.

I asked Ian at BK what this was about.
Quote:
The current mounts should work as well on the Cobra seats as they do on any other seats.

I just have a set of Cobras coming for my M3, and will be developing some application specific mounts as a result.

Ian
Not sure what he means by "application specific", but I'll be installing my R-9280 in a few weeks.

Wiring cheat sheet! Based on the window button picture from the instructions:
1. Purple seat wire
2 and 3. Floor brown (ground, pigtailed)
4. Blue seat wire
5. Floor red wire (power)

I wanted to say Thanks.
i now have BK seat mounts with the E30 window button on both the driver and passenger seats and it works tremendously well.

I wouldn't know the BK bracket exists without this thread and I simply wanted to say thank you for sharing.

I benefited greatly from the OP post.
