I've been 'Googling' the diagnosis today and have come across others that have experienced a similar steering wheel vibration due to these failing bushings - hoping for a good outcome from the replacement Will advise. Last edited by Meff; 03-10-2011 at 11:54 PM.. |

Interesting, my car doesn't go in for another two weeks. I still think there may be a pad deposit issue on mine, but the bushings could be an alternative explanation.

Well again in my case it was definitely something with the brakes not the bushings.

So, I had the thrust rod bushings replaced yesterday and they did not fix the problem. So they kept it overnight and dug deeper and found that the RF calliper was not fully releasing (very slightly) and caused the rotor to warp a bit causing the vibration.
Ended up with a rebuilt calliper and two new front rotors and the car drives like a dream again with no vibration at all under the same braking conditions. All is right with the world again. |

I noticed the same thing with braking after replacing my winter wheels with aftermarket wheels and tires. I brought them to the dealer who swapped out the wheels with OEMs. Thankfully, they noticed the same issue and said it was the brake rotors. They were saying that this was the first M3 they've seen with this even since the e46. It's been interesting since I only have 9K miles without bringing it to the track. They said it might happen if the brakes are hot then get doused with water but that sounds strange as well. They're going to replace the front brake rotors and pads. I might have had this before with my winter wheels but it just was not as noticeable.
