Aftermarket Wheel on a E9X M3 (my 2 cents)

I'm not quite sure if it's just me or if others feel this way, but most, and I do mean most, of the aftermarket wheels I've seen on the E9Xs are horrible. The E9Xs (M3) are one of the best looking M3s ever designed (my opinion) and they look the best, by far, with a set of 359s ZCPs (my opinion). Although I understand and respect that most guys go aftermarket to have some lighter wheels, but man some of the wheel choices are just terrible. I see some M3s with aftermarkets and sometimes I can't believe someone would do that to an M3. Performance driven or not, some of the M3s out there are better off running OEM setup. Not all BBSs are nice looking. Don't believe the hype. They are over priced and some look like trash...especially on an E9X M3. Just because it says Volk Racking doesn't mean it looks good. M3s are meant to look just as good as they are suppose to drive. Unless you're tracking your car, stop it already. Anyways, to each their own, but thought I'd share to see what others think.

I like my apex arc8 18x9.5/10.5. Had them 6 years.

Those are nice. Looks similar to the E46 comp wheels

Wouldn't trade my Volk's for anything else. To name BBS and Volk Racing as two brands that don't look good is strange.... Volk/BBS/HRE/Apex are the only 3 viable options for aftermarket wheels IMO.

The bling bling brands like 360 Forged, etc. are the ones you can bash....

I personally think the 359m wheels are the best looking on the car. Never get tired of looking at them.

Went with a used set of HRE P43's when the stock ZCP's gave up the ghost. Loved the ZCP's, however they ALL bent to some extent on Denver roads. They're cast. Looking to go supercharged and so received a little extra rim width in the process (9.5/10.5). Look good although in satin black they don't quite match up as well absent having them refinished. P40's are basically the same as ZCP (but of course forged).

i'm pretty conservative when it comes to wheels as well, there are only about 5 different wheels i'd put on my car. BBS FI-R are absolutely stunning in person though. seeing the holes in the spokes are surreal. by far my favorite wheels on the market.

Although I would agree that the 219 are an excellent wheel. I would argue that 359>219

A lot of wheel styles look great on this car. Good to be different, but whatever floats your boat! But I'd stick to the Volk Racing over Volk racking any day (my opinion )

I completely agree with you man. M359s are the best looking wheels on this car

Agreed from a performance stand point. I argue that from a look stand point.

The 359 ZCP will never get old. They will go down as the best set of OEM wheels ever designed by BMW, let alone the M3.

On another note, when it comes to wheels its all about two thing: 1. performance and 2. design or look. Some choose their wheels for performance and based on what I've seen the look of a lot of performance wheels is generally . Personally, I don't need the car to be any lighter as it's a V8, 414HP motor...enough is enough. It's a sexy ass car and deserves to look the part...especially around town. Some aftermarket wheels kill that. The phrase, "to each their own" needs be capped off at a certain point.

The 359 ZCP wheel is one of the sweetest stock wheels ever made for a mass produced car. If this wheel was forged it would be a collector's piece!

I mean it's your opinion vs others.

I love the bullish look of smaller wheels with fat ass tires. Mean over clean I suppose.

They're nice wheels but they're old since you see them everywhere. 219 for the win.

On the e90s, the fatter tires on 18s tend to look better than zcp wheels.

I can't believe OP called out BBS & Volks of all the brands out there. There are specific models within both companies that are appalling but it would've been more fair to state those models instead.

Furthermore, a lot of times guys go to Volks or BBS is the weight savings. 3 Lbs unsprung weight saved on each corner does wonders during turn in etc.

You're right about the weight factor. That's what I meant when I said performance. I called out those two brands because they are two of the more popular ones. I didn't specify any particular model because I didn't want to make this thread personal against anyone who owns of those models.

Ok I hear you. However, sometimes I'm willing to compromise on aesthetics if quality and performance is above average.

I dislike any aftermarket wheels unless they are the well known ones like HRE, BBS, etc. but even those need to be like the best wheel they offer.

I am an OEM wheel kind of guy.

One of the best OEM wheels IMO are BMW competition package wheels and the Camaro Z28 wheel from the last few wheels
