OMG - hopefully not someone on this forum - fatal accident in Palm Beach, FL

http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/tr...d-1205635.html

Quote:
WELLINGTON — Investigators say alcohol and speed played a role in the single-car crash that left a 29-year-old man dead, thrown from his car this morning in Wellington.

Daniel Portela of West Palm Beach had left the Player's Club Bar and Restaurant in his BMW M3 series and headed northbound on South Shore Boulevard, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff's report.

Portela, who was wearing his seat belt, could not "negotiate" a curve and lost control, said Sgt. John Churchill of the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. The car turned clockwise, made it on to the median and continued sideways until it stuck a tree, which split the car in half, the report stated.

The front half of the car continued to slide on the median until it struck a second tree, which threw Portela from his car, according to the report. That part of the car then caught fire.

Portela died at the scene.

It has painted reflectors too and 359M wheels obviously. It also has the ZCP CF bits on the front fascia and rear deck.

Either the driver was doozing off (3:30am) while driving at high speed or he was racing. Hitting two trees and splitting the car in two is something quite difficult to do at the 45mph limit in that boulevard, IMO.

he must have been flying
to cut a car in half on a tree, means serious speed.
airbags deployd, but no use in an accident of that magnitude

No ZCP on convertibles... also, you can see the CF roof sticking up in this shot.

Dunno, but looks like sideways into a tree pretty fast. (Strike that thought about a cab)
The driver being thrown from the car would make me wonder if he was wearing a seatbelt but once the car splits in half I don't think it would have made any difference.
