Need E93 Convertible center roof molding
Hello All,
I thought I would reach out here in the Forum to see if I can get some help. I have two of the molding pieces on my e93 M3 that were missing when I bought it. Dealer said he would replace (independent guy) and turns out the pieces are not sold individually any longer. Part Code 54377184037 is for a full set at almost $900 NOT painted just primed. So I thought I would look for any e93 that is getting parted out or look for individual parts online. Some ebay listings are gouging so I thought I would reach out here to see if anyone knows of an e93 convertible getting parted out? Yes, I am searching on my own :-) however, this group has always been super helpful, and thought I would reach out to my BMW brothers and sisters for some help if possible. Color does not matter as I would re-spray. I am located in Southern California and could grab my own parts if need be. Thanks in advance! |

I had to replace part #6 on both sides of mine a year ago. I found them on Amazon (oem) for $100 each. I also got the clips on there as well pretty cheap. They seem to be harder to find now. Good luck with the search.

I sent him an email and he got back to me right away, but someone bought the whole rolling chassis from him two weeks ago unfortunately.

Did you ever find an alternative to ordering the complete primered set? My shop quoted me $1700 after paint and labor....

One of the inner clips in the driver side #6 broke off and the spring sprung outward, holding clip broke off, causing the spring to bend slightly it while the roof was closing. Fortunately, no damage done to #6 and I was able to bend the spring back to its original shape, used heavy duty tape to secure the #6 piece with the metal bracket without replacing the broken off plastic clip (I actually bought several replacement plastic clips). Also put the tape throughout both sides of the bracket to allow more secure connection to prevent similar issues in the future.
In the process, I too searched for these parts and wasn't successful. So, I have been searching for the spec for these pieces so that I can try 3D printing them. So far, no success. Only way I can think of doing this is to uninstall mine to obtain the spec for 3D printing which I am not inclined to at this point (but I should). So, I was wondering if anyone else had seen the spec sheet for these parts. If such exists, I'd be happy to 3D print some samples for the members with E93 to try out. Unless the integrity/durability of the part requires expensive cartridge, I can't imagine cost to print #6 would be no more than a few dollars. Last edited by cloumeM; 12-23-2021 at 08:49 AM.. |

Any chance you have a picture of what you did here? I was applying gummi pflege to rubber seals with the top partially up and noticed a spring just hanging loose. Upon closer inspection it looks like a clip in #6 (the clip that's closest to the front in this particular molding) had broken off. Not sure when it happened but I feel lucky it didn't spring sideways and scratch the paint on the roof.
I ordered clips the clips here (https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...cB#description) but from the sounds of it I want to do exactly what you did to ensure it is secure and to prevent it from happening in the future. Thanks in advance, good sir! Quote:

BTW, I purchased the same clips and set of springs but ended up not using them; hopefully I won't have to. |

Thanks for the quick reply cloumeM . It looks like our issues are dang near 100% alike. Same exact clip/spring being the issue. How did you just bend that spring back? It is used to latch onto the clip (which for us, broke) which I imagine is needed to stop it from popping-out/protruding.
This picture made total sense for me - 100% clear what to do now and does seem like it'll work wonders so long as the tape isn't too thick to where it causes a gap for water to enter. Now I just need to find tape with the proper thickness/strength - what kind of tape did you use? |

Also, the tape I used wasn't too thick but a bit on a stiffer side which is worrying me that they might prop off of the surfaces. Hence the reason for me wanting to replace them with more flexible and thinner tape, wide enough to cover the entire metal rail to completely wrap them and tape to the plastic piece (e.g., 3" ish wide black 3M tape). FYI, the red tape was from Home Depot, heavy duty 3M double tape. |
