Even tires, Conti's are ~$1000 from Tirerack.com, mounting and balancing should be $80-100. So $400 went into the tire shops pocket.

I had my DCT mechatronics and covers done for $1000 at a shop.

Coils, plugs and TA's all involve ripping the same stuff open and probably could've been done in a parking lot (plus a cheap easy up tent if you need some shade). The coils and plugs could've cost you $250.

If you don't want to take it all on yourself never underestimate trying to find someone who might be local and willing to help you turn a wrench for a 12 pack of beer.

The hundreds/thousands saved could easily go to paying for the tools and gear you'd need and most of that stuff can be stuck inside a small apartment closet. I kept my winter tires stacked up 2x in my living room in college with plywood on top to use as end tables. Get creative :-)

Leatherique is just for maintenance. IMO, it's will come out best to just take it to a leather repair expert. I had both my cars fixed a few weeks back, was about $500 for both of them.

I love leatherique, I consider it liquid gold. I apply it about 2-3 times a year on my E92. I'd suggest buying a 32oz bottle right now, then snagging a bunch during a sale. Think I paid about $37 per 32oz bottle during Black Friday.

Does it yield decent results for novices?

Yes I think so. I wold say expect it to hide the wear to the untrained or unsuspecting eye. If you were selling the seats someone expecting then would probably notice, but people randomly getting out of your car will be fooled into thinking you have no wear.

See the pics on the first page of my build thread for an example. I just used the basic kit and a heat gun. https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1667752
