Rock Chips, high mileage owners, please chime in..
Folks,
I have covered the front bumper, half of the hood (extended to cover front section of quarter panels as well), lights, and mirrors with venture shield clear bra. I was wondering those of you who have high mileage dark colored cars, are you finding other susceptible areas over time that should be protected from rock chips/pitting. Some areas I feel should be covered are as follows: Area before and behind each wheel well. Maybe A-pillars. Side skirts. Much appreciate your input. |

rear fenders and maybe even look into putting it over the CF roof.
The roof may sound silly but on 2 of my previous cars right above the front window I have had a rock chip or two. |

Side skirts and rear bumper (right behind the wheels). I also have clear bra on front bumper, hood and a few other spots. I had the option to put some behind the front and rear wheels and wish I had. After only 12000 miles the rocker panels are in terrible shape. I am curious if anyone has covered this area and how well it holds up.

I have more rock chips at 7K miles than most of you will get in the car's lifetime . That's what a crappy desert city does to you.
Yes, I'd cover behind the rear wheels; it's pretty beat up back there, although not too visible. This car needed mud-guards badly, especially in the rear. |

Oh yeah...forgot to mention that spacers make it worse.

My car only has 8000 miles but the front end is specked with rock chips...all because of the Skyline Cruises in the Mid-atlantic section. Driving behind another car with sticky tires and gravel on the road is a bad (but fun) idea.
The side skirts definitely gets a whole lot of damage, in addition to the front bumper and hood. The rear quarter panel on my M3 is still pretty good (dont have spacers though). |

On both my previous '02 M3 and current '10 M3 Coupe, I had all of these areas covered, but actually the most pitted areas on both cars were the windshields. I'm not sure of what a potential solution would be for this area as in certain light, it is very apparent all of the fine stone pitting that is present.

I got some nice long scratches on one of my doors from rocks or something getting flung up on the sides. Only 1000 miles too I agree they needed some kind of mudflaps or better fling protection built into this car.
