Good to see them separating themselves from what they were in the past, rebadged Fords and Mitsubishis. I had a 97 Sonata, and you can tell who built what parts of it. Everything made by Mitsubishi broke, everything made by Hyundai looked cheap but didn't break.

They still have a long way to go, though. My ex had an 03 Tiburon, the thing had no power and felt like 90% of the weight was in the front (I believe the actual weight distribution was 64/36, but that's what happened when they took the 2.5L V6 from the 99-01 Sonata, bored it out to 2.7L, and put it in a coupe).

WOW!! I love how that car looks. I'd put it in one of the best looking sub $100K cars period. Hopefully they step up the performance game a bit, my friend hates his current tiburon.

Does he have an RD (97-99), RD2/RC (00-02), or GK (03-current)?

That orange coupe looks awesome. Very similar front like the Aston Martin. Sexy.

He has the 03-current. It looks pretty nice but he complains about it all the time.

Wow, that first one was really bad. I started laughing at how terrible that really truly was.

I know it's not a fair comparison, but compare it to this crash test of a McLaren F1.

Being built for lightweight, balance, speed it's really impressive.

I just saw one of the orange coupes in person today (...non-modded), and the lines are nice. The paint isn't too shabby either. I wonder how it drives.

No, you are not crazy, it does kind of look like an Aston Martin indeed.

But truly Hyundai has their own taste there as well, they truly are pretty ambitious..

I saw the new tibby's also... they do look pretty slick ~ much better than a Scion at least -- wow how i hate scions... Esp their new commercials of the xB (or tB: for tissue Box), where words like "despite it, Loathe it, etc" come to represent the car... and it makes me think, i really do abso-fucking-lutely hate those cars.

I drove a few Tibby's... their handling [for their price] is very good. the fit and finish (interior/exterior) is also very nice. As for power, it's lacking, but there's huge potential for improvement. The only criticism is... FWD. Hyundai has to start breaking into the RWD platform to actually entice mod-heads.

So very ironic you say that. Just a few years ago, Hyundai was mainly ignored, criticized, etc. Now, many automakers are trying to compete with them in regard to warranty, as well as its products.
My father (many years ago, before we moved to the states) was the VP of Engineering of Hyundai (in South Korea; where there are huge tariffs on imports -- so we can consider Hyundai the true monopoly there), and so much as changed. Their outlook on innovation, processes, etc. have all improved exponentially. I won't be surprised if Hyundai competes directly w/ the Japanese imports [in a few years].

Good:

- roofline
- dimensions
- stance
- clean lines
- bootlid/rear lights/rear bumper = perfect (look at spypics too)

Bad:

- 2 side creases look sort of weird because of the angle of slope
- not too sure about windows, could have made it simpler
- headlights are a little fussy and small

Overall, I've got hopes for it and cant wait to see official pics and bigger pics from diff angles.

I agree with most of those assessments. Yeah I want to see the official pics in different angles and with different colors as well. Grey makes a lot of cars seem similar.

If I cover the front of the car with my hand and look at it, it makes the car look much better. The front is a bit dainty compared to the rest of it. I'd also prefer a bit less overhang on the front as well.

Yeah I'm with you on the overhang too.
