Just got my second one done and like it a tad bit better. Opened from the top and the large pipes replaced versus covered. Thought about coating it black but couldn't stand not hearing it so I installed it last night.

Had this mod done today. 4 hour procedure. Opened from the top and had them split a pipe in half and weld around large perforated pipes. Sounds amazing when getting on it but quiet as stock when cruising. No drone whatsoever. Could not be happier. Best money spent so far on car.

So I decided I would try this mod today especially since I have an extra OE exhaust. (Oh and I also happen to know how to build off-road race cars and have a full shop at hand) So It took me about an hr to do the mod start to finish. I welded tubing over the perf. sections, re-stuffed the can and welded it shut. Its no fun welding the stock can back together because it is so dam thin.
All I can say is that I wasted my time. It is only a tiny bit louder and I covered everything there is to cover inside there! It sounds really good with no drone, just way too quiet. The sound is really amazing through every gear and it looks 100% stock. I want my car to be loud, this isnt the thing for me. If anyone has a loud exhaust that they cant stand PLEASE trade me plus cash! |

Hey, just sent you a PM to have dibs on your modded exhaust if you sell it and ship it . Your best bet is to sell it and buy a Megan exhaust for $500. Good luck.
Oh, do you have a vid of your modded exhaust? Just to make sure you didn't screw it up . Just kidding man. |

Im gonna stop wasting my time with the really ugly and heavy stock setup. Im gonna buy a real exhaust that I can actually hear.
And FYI, I covered every single hole in the muffler with some really trick stainless steel covers that I made and then Tig'ed everything into place. |

be sure to stand behind the car and have someone else rev it. also might be interesting to have someone else drive your car while you follow in another car with your windows down. It is much louder than it seems when you are inside the car. BMW did a good job with sound deadening, making it very deceptive when you are driving.

Pardon my stupid question...will an E92 muffler bolt up to an E90? Is the only issue that the tips will stick out a little bit?

I drove the car around a little more and I must say it sounds really good. I personally just want it louder.
On another I put a half tank of 100 octane gas in with a half tank of 91 and OMG!!! The car is insane, this is by far the best mod you could do. The car feels faster with the mixed octane gas than my old car with all the Dinan stuff and 91 octane! |

Well for me personally I want it loud. My M is not my daily driver and is more or less my toy. I drive the car when I want to have fun. Im not worried about upsetting my neighbors with early am cold starts or worried about the local sheriff. This is my modern day "hotrod" if you will. With that said I dont want it loud just for the sake of being loud. I want it to sound like that race car it wants to be. I already know I have to delete the cats at the very least as this is not my first time around.

How did you mod this? Did you remove the sound deadening material? Is with the exhaust going directly to the tips (rather then crossing over)? sounds amazing, exactly something i would want to do.

Is there any potential downside to this mod, such as would covering the perforation impact heat dissipation?
