Bmw M2(6mt) vs E90/92 Competition (6mt)
Hi i wanted to make a new thread to discuss the new BMW M2 vs a Competition Package E92/E90 M3 because i am interested in picking up a car later this year and am having a hard time choosing between the two. I wanted to ask if anyone has had the privileged to drive the two back to back and/or owned both of them because i am interested in how they compare in (1) Handling , (2) driver enjoyment/engagement, and (3) performance + ease of performance gains.
I personally have had the pleasure of driving an E46 M3 coupe with competition package + manual and an E92 M3 (6mt) with competition package and loved them both. I personally loved the size of the E46 M3, but preferred the engine and experience of the E92 slightly more. With that being said i can imagine the bmw M2 being quite a blast to drive because of its similiar size to an E46 M3 and its similiar power to that of a v8 E92 M3. My biggest dilemma is the hydraulic vs Electric power steering topic and whether if its financially worth to make the jump to a M2 over a depreciated M3. Any comments, insights, or inputs are appreciated. Thanks! |

Read some of the M2 threads below this one.
TL;DR = M2 is a disappointment at its price point, while the M3 is the cream of the crop at its price point.

Thanks, i went ahead and checked out some of the posts and they seem to reconfirm my suspicions of the M2 being a good car, but the e92/e90 comp package m3s being a steal for the current money and giving a (arguably) more unique driving experience. I wanted to ask if suspension upgrade kits are worthwhile for the e92 m3 because i believe the m2 to be a faster and better handling car under 60-80mph (from what ive hear'd) and i know that with the m2 you could make easy power compared to the NA v8. I'm going to see if i can get my hands on a m2 to test drive soon, however researching into the car almost makes me want to even consider a 1 series M over a current M2 but the fact that it will likely be sitting in my garage most of the time does dissuade me.. from not going down the e92/e90 path.

Many people upgrade to something like the Ohlins R&T for street use.
Personally I would switch to the B8 EDC or maybe the B16 kit if looking for more performance. I don't want to lose EDC unless I'm going to a full race suspension |

This..EDC offers plenty for what it is. Just needs better springs.
