30-40K compact suv
Hey, we need a new car for the wife, since it is for the wife, serious driving dynamics and fun to drive are less priority.
Must have AWD. Not many packages, wife isnt a tech junkie and rarely uses anything besides AC and Radio. 30-40K range. NO RX350. Heres a list i drew up so far...test drove only one of them. In ABC order: Acura RDX Audi q5, premium BMW X3 Land Rover LR2 Mercedes GLK-test drove, i like it, a bit small for the rear seats though... Which would be the best choice. Again, driving dynamics/sportiness is not high priority. Safety/AWD system, Fuel Economy, somewhat Reliability, and usability are higher concerns. Thanks for your time! |

I'd go with the RDX or the X3. The Land Rover is just a status symbol, M-B's are generally unreliable, and Audis charge way too much. After that, it's up to you. More comfort or "more" sportiness?

Dont get the X3, it sucks harder than a 328i.
Dont get the LR2, it is unreliable. Dont get the Q5, costs too much for what it is. I would recommend the RDX, i can personally attest to its amazing speed and brilliant AWD (You need to push it to notice this though).

you could get a RDX with Nav for around $33000
but the gas mileage aint so good my fiancee has one and she avg 21 mpg (mostly highway), is a 4c with turbo. engine is a bit loud (ivtec), but for $32k not bad at all and if you dont care about the Nav, the regular eqipped one is $29k in the long run, rdx is the best choice out of the 5 IMO X3 is also good but will cost more with a few options, the current model has been out for a while |

My first pick would be the MB GLK. Don't bother with the Volvo XC60, if u were gonna get that, just get a XC70 crosscountry instead.

In response to some of the replies i have heard...
RX350- i eliminated it because i have already had a RX300 and the new one looks VERY ugly in my opinion. Volvo XC60-Wife thinks it looks ugly, i think city smart thing is pretty cool though. VW tiguan-Not a fan of the interior... also, i have eliminated the LR2 from my list |

I like the GLK. You can get a pretty loaded one for around 40.
The other choice to me would be an RDX. Though I have heard complaints about the ride being a little too sporty and the fuel economy is not so great. The rest are over priced and not worth the extra money.

Stay away from LR if reliability is a concern. Get it if "ability" is a must-have. I have an '03 Disco and not only is reliability always a concern, there is also very little forum support (at least compared to the BMW).
RDX doesn't return the fuel economy it should. I'd go with the Volvo. |
