Just the stain or the entire hood?
Two weeks ago, I clayed the hood of my E92, used Chemical Guys' Scratch and Swirl Remover, then applied P21s carnauba paste wax. Tonight I noticed a faint stain from a bird dropping just above the Roundel on the hood. It's about 6 inches long. I thought I got it all out, but from a different angle I saw that some if it was still there.
I'm going to polish the stain with a more aggressive polish like CG V36, then V34 or V32 if I need more cut. Using a TORQ FX10 DAP. Question for you all: what would you do? Just polish the area where the stain is, or do the entire hood? Other than the stain, the rest of the hood is flawless (as much as it could be for a daily). It's also dirty, as you can see in the image below. And would you mask off the area to be polished so as to control the work, or not? Thanks for the advice.

If this "stain" is just from bird droppings, you should be able to get it out with a very light polish, I would strip the entire hood and polish the whole thing while focusing on that spot. After the spot is out, make sure that the entire hood looks the same and you can't see that one spot was polished more than the rest. Then use whatever protection you prefer. If you are parking outside under birds with acidic droppings, Id go for a coating or sealant over a wax FWIW.

I have used a few different kinds, my two favorites that I have tried are AMMO Skin and Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0. There are many reviews out there with some technical data as well "Forensic Detailing" has a lot of in depth videos on Youtube depending on how far down the rabbit hole you want to go.

I would try claying the spot again. Can you feel the stain on the paint?

Good checkpoint, though. I certainly want to proceed in baby steps since the hood was wet sanded when I bought the car.

That was my suspicion. Thanks for the feedback.

A trick I learned years ago was to put your hand inside a Ziploc bag and then run it over the surface. That will "magnify" any imperfections or edges. Hopefully the stain did not etch the clearcoat.

Personally, I would strip off the protection and correct the entire panel before adding a high quality sealant or coating of your choice. If you're planning to clay and your hood is currently "flawless", expect that the clay will create some marring or light scratches.
