Oil change on mileage or time?
I've had my 08 e92 for just over a year now. In the last year, Ive only driven about 8K miles and the CBS shows I still have another 7K or so before I need an oil change. While the car hasn't been driven daily, does oil that is still year old require changing?
I also ask because I prepaid my oil changes with the dealer when I bought the car. I got 6 for $300. The sales guy didn't know the M oil changes were more expensive but the service manager said he'd honor them. At the rate I drive this car, I'm lucky to get 1 oil change in the next 2 years and my prepay is good for another year or so... I'm also wondering if my dealer will do an oil change if the CBS says I don't need it. |

Even under warranty, BMW will perform a low-mileage change once a year. BMW's service schedule is meant to save BMW money and yet they still finance one-year changes. I take this to mean that you should definitely go for it. (I'm in a similar boat--only put about 5,000 a year on mine as well.)

I am in the same boat as you. 2008 with 34k miles. (just did a cross country trip, prior to the trip, I only had 27k last month).
Do your oil changes on the annual calendar basis. My car averaged about 8k per year as well (again prior to my trip), and even after my trip, I am still on the low mileage annual oil change plan. 6 changes for $300?!?! That's a fucking good deal bro. Oil alone are $65 or so. They're loosing money every time you go in and redeem! I'm don't think your CBS will chime once a year, and even if it doesn't, your dealer should change the oil simply b/c they already sold you the service package and is obligated to honor it at this point. When the 2008s were still under the free maintenance plan, the plan called for annual changes if the car was driven less than (i think) 15,000 miles a year. Yeh. I got my car from a Toyota dealer that has a BMW dealer in their family of dealerships. The Toyota guys didn't know the oil change costs related to M cars (but I did). Their Corp. HQ said they would honor it. I wanna make sure I milk it and come out ahead. At this rate, I'll probably break even at once a year...
