Will leaving IPOD in car 24/7 drain the car battery?

Hi,

Did a forum search first and didn't find answer. I have an old IPOD, a Video IPOD, that was just living in a drawer after I got my iPhone4. Thinking of just having my old IPOD be dedicated to my M3 so I don't have to keep plugging/unplugging my iPhone if I want to access my own music.

As far as I can tell, your IPOD does not automatically turn off when you turn off the car, in fact it keeps charging from the car battery. Just wondering if charging the IPOD 24/7 can drain the car battery? Anyone else have a dedicated IPOD that just stays connected whether driving or not? Any car battery issues?

for what it's worth, i have one of those charging / playing music / bluetooth 12V cradle (that plugs into your cig lighter). left the iPhone in for about 2 hrs in my truck with the truck turned off and my battery was dead. needed a boost...
unless someone confirms differently, i wouldnt take a chance...

Nope- no problem at all- I leave mine plugged into the USB port in the center console all the time. It does not drain power unless key is in car and accessory power is turned on.

Now post pics of your new e90- I know you have it!!

I have a dedicated nano that stays in the center console at all times and did the same in my '08 550. Never had any battery issues in either car...

As I recall when the car goes to "sleep" it shuts off all power outlets/sources. The iPod left in the console will stop charging at that point...

+1 this.. I was wondering how everyone was even charging their iPhones because after sleep mode mine quits charging it?

I keep an iPod Classic connected to mine 24/7. When the car is completely off the iPod stays on using it's own battery. When the car is on the iPod goes into charging mode. This iPod has been in three other cars before and never drained a battery.

My only issue is that the screen makes me choose the iPod each time I turn on the car - even though it begins playing music from where it left off.
