I bought mine (2011 Lemans Blue ZCP, DCT) on CarMax. It had 79k miles on it and I paid about $26k. No problems at all but I did buy the warranty. The Carmax experience was really good.

patience

i looked for almost 6 months for the car I wanted and ended up paying a big premium over "market price" and I have zero regrets. the only thing I compromised on was it having iDrive/Nav.

it's difficult to find a clean, stock, very low mileage, CF roof, 6MT, ZCP with a documented service history. i have a friend who sold his to EAG last year for $65k....and they had it listed and re-sold within 72 hours.

i keep waiting for a car like I described above to show up on BaT to see what it will bring.

This is surpricing, never heard of before. I have the individual system, yes high seats (but nice sound..), but the way I remember it sitting in a standard hifi car it was the same way.

the car was loaded... including iDrive. if they bought it for $65k I gotta believe they sold it for at least low 70's. it was ultra low mileage and Condition One.

I expect F8x prices to continue to fall and eventually be lower than e9x prices.

If you're particular about what you want, have your monies lined up and be ready to pull the trigger when what you're looking for surfaces. I waited six months for a blue M3. I ultimately sacrificed the 6MT, but I test drove it and put a deposit on it 5 hours after it showed up on eBay; It already had 24 followers... And I had to pay asking price.
It is faster, but its vmax is less than that of an E92M3 or E90M3 due to drag. Think: Autobahn roadkill.

However, between the two offering a 6 and an 8 cylinder BMW wonk, which engine will be the magnet?

E9x is and certainly will be a classic but I wouldn't count the F8x out: great looks, near bullet proof, fast, fun, last and best DCT or 6MT, GTS and CS actually came to North America. A future classic just different.

Just keep your eye out and be ready. The spec you're talking about is exactly what I was searching for. Honestly I think I got pretty lucky, one popped up in Virginia only about a month in to my search - fully loaded ZCP, fox red interior, relatively low mileage. I jumped on it, ordered a PPI, and wired the money sight unseen. Flew up that weekend and drove it down to Tampa. I still get Autotrader and Car Gurus notifications daily and have yet to see a similar spec pop up.
