If I had a real bad incident...I wouldn't expect a roll bar to do a ton more than what's already designed in the car.

I think the biggest risk based on likelihood and severity to deal with is a side impact. I've never heard of someone getting their spine crushed. I have witnessed 5 injuries from a side impact. Particularly the door.

...just a thought.
Yeah, seems that E46 holds up really well in crashes. I should get a track prepped and caged Miata or E36 for maximum safety.

I don't see what the deal with the QFP is? This thing is pretty much around my waist as low as it can go - it's just a matter of adjusting the straps properly.

Seems like this car held up pretty well for going the the side of a cliff. No harness, helmet or roll bar.

I think the difference is in racing you can do a pretty bad barrel roll of a hundred times and that's what the cage does protection against. Not a roll over with a few rolls but thankful new cars can do this in video.

Are you planning for a barrel roll of a hundred times? hehe.

I haven't seen a closed rod course with a cliff on the side...at least in the US.

I'm thinking high speed race cars I don't think a street car converted would need full on cage unless wheel to wheel smacking upside against each other.

Ran the QFP's and new Schroth SHR this weekend. World of difference!!! The last session I was all packed up and ran the three points again, night and day. You have so much more control and tire yourself out much less when harnessed in. Way less bracing in high-G turns, just dramatic what the difference is. Glad I stepped up to the QFP's and plan to continue the safety progression when the time is right.

Do you run these on the street, too? It's my understanding they are street legal. It would be nice to not be constantly removing and reinstalling these.

I just move mine out of the way on the street, no need to completely remove.

I don't and I'm not sure I would feel safe running them on the street. Also, it only takes about 30 seconds/side to completely un-clip and remove from the car as each connection point disconnects just like a seat belt, so easy! You also leave your 3pt belts in so it's quite simple to go back and forth.

My opinion, I think up to fixed backs, harness (4-6pt) and HANS is OK before going with a cage. Yeah, the fixed back seat won't fold and I may be supporting the car with my head in a rollover...but I also don't want my seat to break and then have my upper body flop around.

Beyond that, cage with at least a forward hoop.
I had to share this. No way in hell I would get a cage that requires bolting to the wheel wells.

Some of these dicey mods need to come with a built in guillotine so if you crash you go quick. Not sure I would feel comfortable with something bolted to a non reinforced point like that :O

Once I leave the track I toss the buckles and straps in the trunk. It's quick!

I may be interested, but post it up in the For Sale section - https://www.m3post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=278

Don't forget to post plenty of pictures showing the condition of the harnesses.

I must admit I chuckled when I read this post initially as I've sold a lot of items on this forum and other forums, but mentioned the sale here mainly because there doesn't appear to be widespread use of these harnesses. I have started a FS thread but have yet to post pictures re: condition of the harnesses but can assure you they are perfectly fine. I only used the harnesses for autocross events, and it would take a whole lot to cause them to deteriorate. If you are interested, I can forward you photos in the next few days.
