What am I Getting In To
After many many years of wanting one, I'll be purchasing an E92 M3 6MT next month (in the middle of a refi on my home and going on vacation the last week of May...it's killing me). I've done some cursory research here and there and am aware of the usual need to knows such as rod bearings and throttle actuators. My biggest dilemma is do I buy and immediately put a supercharger on or wait? The primary thought process is it would be easier to roll the cost of the SC into the loan now, than coming up with 10K in a year or two.
I will admit, I have very little experience with high HP vehicles. It will not be my daily driver, but will get as much use as I can otherwise. My initial budget is in the 30K range so I'm thinking an 08 or 09 if I want to supercharge it, or an 10/11 if not. Oh yeah, my brother in law is a wholesale used car dealer so that might come into play as well. The secondary question is would an 08/09 with 70k miles on it hold up against a SC for a decent amount of time? I'll eventually be adding additional modifications as the years go along if that matters and will probably keep the car 10+ years. I'm a 50 yo man btw if that matters as well. Why do you need a supercharger now, particularly when you have little experience with high power vehicles?

I don't see any issues with forced induction on 70k miles e92. I'd tackle RBs prior for peace of mind then go to the supercharger. I don't see a point in trying to get a 11+ and skipping the supercharger... if that is your case.
RBs , charge it! Have fun!

Second, financing a car is one thing but if you need to finance a mod, then I strongly suggest you re-evaluate your priorities.

you should really drive the car long enough to know how the car feels and reacts before throwing a BIG mod on it
if you want the torque out of the box, go get the f80 m4 you can get a used one in the mid to high 30's if you look around or how about a used corvette? c7? i think that should fit your needs quite nicely

Drive it for a bit stock, do the RBs and other maintenance, then SC it. At least that's what I'm doing.
Financially what your saying makes sense, except that you'll pay interest on the SC. You could also source a used SC and replace some of the wear items and save some $$$

Thanks for the input. As for the vete, I've never liked them. I can appreciate them, but they just don't do anything for me. I've always really liked the looks of the M3 as well. It's not necessarily all about the power.

Good point as well. I have plenty of disposable income, but I do have a reluctant SO and competing priorities. Always a balancing act. |

how about you just find one for sale that is already supercharged, might be a longer hunt, but worth the wait!

That is a thought as well. I'm just ready to pull the trigger. But if one comes along it's definitely a consideration. I missed the boat on the one in Phoenix by a couple of days! So bummed.

My two cents are that if you're not used to high HP vehicles then a stock M3 may be just fine for you. I know the reviews and such complain about the lack of torque but 295 is quite a bit of you're not used to it.
The longer I drive mine the less and less I think about super charging it in the future.

I would drive the car stock for awhile and see what you think. You would be surprised how amazing the stock NA motor is. Lots of smiles.

Imho get rod bearings, motor mounts and a clutch. Then a driveshaft and rear suspension bits to strengthen it for a supercharger.
You're getting into a money pit. A lovely money pit.
