Oily substance leaking on bumper

Hey All,

I googled and searched the forums, i fear that i may not be using the correct terms so hope this question hasn't been answered and its in front of my face.

I'm new to my M3, just picked it up on tuesday this week. I live in Arizona and it has been 110+ since tuesday.

Today I noticed that there was a long drip of a sticky greasy substance on my rear bumper. Upon investigation i found that it is from a drain on the botton side of the trunk lid. I called my service rep and he said that it was a coating that is inside the trunk that leaks in the heat. He also warned me that if it isn't wiped off it can staint he paint.

I'm wondering if anyone has come up with a nice solution.

From memory this is a wax (someone can call me on this if I'm wrong) sealant that is between virtually every body panel on the car. On the lovely hot days you may see it trailing along the lower door sill panels and under the hood. I was able to clean it with some tar remover. Once clean, expect more to come... It really isn't that bad, just don't wipe it off dry. It will attract dust & dirt if left untouched

My wife's new X5 did this on the rear bumper. I found WD40 works well at removing it, then wax over the area to seal it.

I believe its the cosmoline that is applied. you will want a solvent to remove it, and if you can get some access into the leaky area, wipe it off

I get that leaking out from my doors. It's a pain to clean off, but hasn't left any stains so far.

Is there a dead hooker in your trunk? If so, it might be her. They tend to leak.
