Sorry to hear that man. Suddenly I don't feel quite as bad about the catalytic converter I just ran over that tore up the bottom of my car : (

I hope you enjoy the rest of your trip despite this fiasco.

It really should not be too difficult for them to provide you with a loan M3 for the remainder of your trip....

So sorry to hear about this. I hope BMW can provide you with an appropriate loaner.

I was more than a bit nervous driving out of Munich with my new M3. I didn't really feel relaxed until we got out on the open roads.

Keep us posted on how things turn out.

Wow... this is by far the worst story I've ever heard. Like someone else earlier said, if this happened to me, it would be on my mind day and night for many many days! I hope you're coping well and best of luck to you. Hopefully you can get some well deserved compensation. Keep us updated on the situation.

Total bummer mate

As for the standards of the German repair. In my experience, the German standards are higher than any other I have seen. The way they treated my Evo 6 TME when it needed work (and I was at the ring,) and I dropped it off in Bonn was amazing. I practically wanted to drive there for every service (LOOOOONG way to go fromScotland ;-) )

Cheers

On the off-chance that the OP is still reading this thread...

Go talk to the Welt managers about this. Enlist the help of your US client advisor if you can, and if he is good. (If not, get someone from BMWNA ED department involved).

Basically tell them that you understand it was a traffic accident, but given that if was in front of their factory by one of their delivery trucks, you would really appreciate if they can provide a loaner car so you can finish your vacation. Tell them you understand they are not obligated to do so, but it would definitely reinforce your positive impression about BMW and demonstrate the extent of their customer focus. Tell them it would pretty much also win them a customer for life.

They should be able to rustle up a demo (press) M car. If it comes to that, tell them you don't care if it's sedan, coupe, vert, M5, M6 or whatever else they can find.

Either way, good luck!!!

No, mine had double sticky tape on it. They take the front one off when you drop it off and you keep it. The rear one was still on the car when I got it at my dealer, so I have it too, but they don't guarantee that.

Thanks for the responses guys. The insurance includes a rental car in case of such an accident. I didnt really need one as my plans this week basically consist of drinking and wandering around downtown.

The ED office is handling the logistics of the repair. I had asked to get the car fixed at VPC because i figured that would be better than some random german body shop, but they are actually taking it to where other cars, that get damaged at the factory go to get fixed. The guy says that its better than VPC. so that makes me feel better, assuming that its true.

One of the guys at the welt suggested i retain legal counsel, to see if i can get the other side to buy me a new M (insurance includes up to 150k euro for legal expenses). I dont think very highly of overly litigous people, and i dont want to have to track down a lawyer in germany on my vacation, so thats not a route i plan on taking. I will probablư look into getting some sort of compensation for diminished value, not sure if that is a concept taht is recognized in Germany. I know its not in California.

one last thing, i hate how german keyboards switch the z and y key. Its amazing how many times you end up using those two letters.

That's an ugly feeling!

I'm sure it'll be 100% fixed up, and you be happy afterwards.

Sorry it happened though.

Good to hear you got a car. But is it a good bahn burner? You've got to spend at least some time on the autobahns with a BMW or other performance car. It's really quite a surreal and uniquely exciting experience. Also, some trips through the countryside in Germany and surrounding countries (especially the Italian Alps) are highly recommended. These are some of the best driving roads in the world. If your rental sucks, try to find another M3Poster doing ED (I think their was a reply earlier in this thread, no), or at least a fellow member who lives around Munich to take you for a spin.

Not that you wanted it, but you ended up with a very original ED story . . . .

I am confident every thing will be made right for you.
