How would I mount a gopro with having an instructor? I think I will be having to drive with an instructor for the next year or maybe a little less. Any ideas?

I've always mounted mine from the sunroof and never had an issue with a passenger. Headrest arm mount would be fine too.

I don't have a sunroof heh, will the headrest arm be far enough away from the passenger?

Edit: https://www.amazon.com/ChargerCity-T...2268580&sr=8-3 looks like it could work

Yup, that's how dbyrd has his camera setup in the video above. Only part of a passenger you would see in the video would be their arm holding the door handle and their legs.

If you use the headrest, be sure to use the driver's side. The weight of the driver dampens vibration. I initially mounted it on the passenger side, and it transfers too much vibration without a passenger.

b4hand - Tackform makes a great mount https://www.tackform.com/collections/vehicle-action-cam and you should be able to position it between you and a passenger and still get a good field of view. I used one while I still had the factory seats in and it stayed locked in place very well - even at Harris Hill pre repave - can't beat that for an endorsement

The other option is mount the cam to someone's old half cage. With a matching set of OMP HTE-R's that are both now ready to find a new home...

This is all RAM stuff. Good price and quality.

+1 for Tackform, the owner is an enthusiast and I've met him a few times. He's in the Chicago suburbs. I used to have the headrest mount that you mention, and since switched to their roll cage mount on my harness bar.

Got a Hero 9 for Christmas and wanted do something like your setup, but the U-Bolt part is listed as not available until the end of January.
So I got impatient and created a Frankenstein setup with whatever Ram parts we had laying around at work.
Had to machine a less than ideal Delrin headrest clamp though, drill/countersink the camera mount and drill/tap some random Ram hose clamp part.
Immature desperation, but I wanted to start playing with the camera.

Sold my 8 today, sorry. I'm keeping the 5 and 7 for the rear cams, have a 9 on its way and if it works well I'll add a second 9 so both cars have the good stuff
Good video makes such a big difference
I tried my 9 out yesterday, but the sound wasn't doing it for me.
Used the built in camera mic, windows up.
Did you ever figure out the remote microphone setup with the 9?

I use a helmet Mount off the right of the helmet with an 8. It gives a pretty good view and allows me to replay the drive from my original pov. Internal stabilization makes all the difference with that mount setup.

Gopro somehow screwed up the usbC audio in their gopro 9 and it did not work correctly in the 2020 season. I hear a driver update may change things

Leave it to them to screw up some of the easiest things. Also note how now when you use a usbc with your gopro9 the battery is not held in by anything and will happily plop right out.

Although USB-C Mic's won't work with my 8 I ended up buying a "special" battery door on Amazon for like $3 that has a hole for the USB-C

Yup that's what I've done with the 8 and the 9.

A usbc mike may not work directly, but GoPro sells an accessory that converts one usbc into a 3.5mm input and a usbc allowing you to charge your gopro as well as plug in an external mike.
This allows you to have it hardwired for power and use an external mike.
That accessory works for the 8, but not the 9.

SYT_Shadow which adapter do you use for your 8? I keep hearing that gopro's own mic adapter is a waste of money. I have a Rode videomic GO and a long extension cable for it, was thinking of zip tying it in the trunk area.

I see you covered it on page 2. Apologies. Guess I'll try the gopro media mod and hope it works for me. Kelse92 did you ever pick one up?

yes, I use the stock gopro one -- you would think their own adapter would work

I never got around to it, I ended up getting a smartycam for track and still going to use the GoPro for autocross but haven't come up with the best/cheap solution yet. That media mod is pricey!

The GoPro USB-C to 3.5mm adapter is compatible with Hero9 after the December v1.5 update. I did not know this and bought it during Black Friday Sales and was stuck with wind on my track day 12/12. Their website shows it compatible with all USB C Heros Black at the time and I was unaware of the situation.

For whatever reason, they disabled it during a firmware update in Oct and it wasn't re-enabled till 2 weeks ago.

Currently,

Hero9, with USB-C to 3.5mm and a 3.5mm extension with windcat on it.
