retail on these parts? $11,200 + labor

Do I smell a supercharger?

Better hook me up with a good coilover price once I get my fenders sorted out

Naw
S/C is something I'll most likely never do.

The basic 'affordable' kits aren't meant for tracking in extreme heat; the stock engine has a tough time already

I'd have to spend 15-20k for the meth injection ones

screw that lol

Mmmm, for 20k, I'd rather do a lot of suspension work and weight reduction. That will improve lap times more than a SC would.

(If the car was mostly used for tracking, not daily driving).

My car does both lol (daily and tracking)

also, weight reduction is great but not suitable for daily driving

if you had 20k to spend on a M3 track car:
light weight wheels+sticky tires (let's do Volks and RS3s) $4k
Race spec Coilovers $4k
BBK $6k
Interior gut (no idea, couple hundred?)
Roll bar/cage +harness ($650+
Sparco seats ($2k? not sure)
Wing: $2k

Add in labor to above parts and you're probably over $20k....

More:
Full exhaust: $5k
Tune: $1200
Pulley/filter: $500
GT4 front lip+splitter: $3k
If you want to spurge: $3k-ish for rear diffuser

Add in labor, you're about $14k

THEN if you want a super charger, add another $15k

Sooooo $50k in mods....on a $70k car........

Damn lol

To save money, I would keep the stock wheels (but add the sticky rubber)

~$10k on Suspension
~$6k on BBK
~$500 to gut the interior and replace the drivers seat with something race-oriented (Recaro Profi, maybe?)

Exhaust and tunes offer very little performance improvements for what you're paying.

I'm pretty sure that roll bars are pretty useless, as are roll cages UNLESS you have one that is properly built and designed.

The stock wheels are heavy, hence why I mentioned lightweight (like volks)

They make a HUGE difference; it feels like you added power. No joke.

When you want to put a race seat, you're not suppose to cheap out. Hence the $2k price point.
You're better off keeping the stock seats than getting something cheap (this is cause the M3 has nice seats. If you were doing it in an older car, then I'm not sure). You're doing it for safety; safety is an area you do not cheap out on. Ever.

why $10k on suspension?
There isn't even $10k you can spend on suspension....not that I know of at least.
you can go JRZ or Moton or KW CS and you're well under 10k

Full exhaust/tune/pulley/filter can yield about 40-50whp, depending on the car and conditions, which is over a 10% increase.
So reduce weight by 10% and add power by 10%, you're looking at (in theory) a 20% increase in overall performance. Pretty great don't you think?

Roll bars/cages actually are not useless...personally, for safety alone, it's worth it

I remember seeing the S2k that flipped a couple times...if he had no roll bar protection, he'd have died...

The M3 is a safe car, but it's not designed to roll over multiple times (no stock mass production car is).
And if you reallllly are serious and are fast...and make a mistake at high speeds on a corner and go of sideways...things can get ugly.

I mean, I'm not at that level nor do I think I'll ever be at that level of speed lol. I rather just go off straight and mess up my lap times then risk doing the turn for the lap time; I'm not in a competition.

But yeah, the prices I listed weren't to cut back. that's if you want to go all out lol
and buy new.

What's wrong with the Recaro Profi lol? That's a very good seat. I put $500 because you can sell all of the stock interior stuff when gutting the interior to help pay for new seat, rails, harness, etc...

Regarding coilovers, 3-way or 4-way adjustable race coilovers are easily 10k on their own. Then if you want to start custom making sway bars, end links, control arms, etc... things can get really expensive.

Lots of poorly designed roll cages are actually more dangerous than not having one at all. If not properly designed, they don't add any rigidity and only add weight. They also need to be properly welded in or else they're useless. A lot of people don't trouble themselves to make sure that they're roll cages are functional.

If you can get a 10% power increase, I agree, that's good and you'll probably see some decreased lap times, but making power isn't cheap lol. It would probably be the last thing that I do if making a track car.

Nothing wrong with them lol
I guess cause I've mainly seen Sparco's or BMW Perf seats (like the one in the CRT m3)

But when buying stuff, I don't take into account how much you would get selling interior stuff
Why?
Cause if one day (and that day will eventually come..) you want to sell the car or back to stock, you'll either need the stock parts back or will need to spend $$ on buying them again

if you want to look at it that way (which makes sense financially wise at the moment of modding), then you can also get about $2k for your stock wheels too. so that's a good help.
and a couple hundred for your stock brakes.
couple hundred for stock suspension.
couple hundred for stock exhausts
it'll add up
but IMO it's better to keep them

Regarding the roll cages being poorly designed..then yes you're right...but I don't think someone from IND would poorly design something :P
and if you're spending this much cash... you'll be a fool (IMO) to put a poorly designed kit in your car...
I too have heard of poorly designed ones...and worse! Someone who used ZIP TIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you believe it?!?!?!?1

You're right in the added power being the last thing to do in a track car, hence why it wasn't listed in the original/first list :P

Could you show me a 10k set up? I'd love to see it (not doubting you, I'd just love to see it so I can drool over it)

I don't think Moton makes their 4-way adjustable coilovers for the e9x, but they do for the E46.

Priced around 12k

EDIT: For the E9x, it appears that Moton only offers 2-way kits.
