Luckily, I have a shop in LA that carries Liquid Moly and Mahle/Mann Filters that is only 10 minutes away. I can take both BMWs there in the same day to get cheap oil changes, without an appointment. Roughly $10-12/liter and $30 oil filter, plus 30 minutes of labor (@ $75-100/hr). Never knew they were there for 10 years.

A BMW Dealership is 3 blocks away, but it might take 2 days to get an oil change for $300-$400 for my M3 with an appointment and a loaner. They will strip both oil drain plugs for free. That is a joke.

BMW E90 M3 is a weekend car now (5k-6k miles a year). BMW F30 335i M-Sport is the daily driver (90 miles a day to work for 12k-15k miles a year). Oil Change every 6k miles.

So the 335i gets 2-3 oil changes a year, while the E90 M3 gets one oil change a year.
I track the mileage for each car by making notes on my phone. Same for the other fluids like coolant, rear diff oil, and transmission fluid (50k miles changed all at once at AutoTalent). Coolant and trans fluid change are more complicated than just drain and fill.

NOTE: Due to the lockdown and teleworking in LA from mid-March to now, I have not driven the E90 M3 much. I have to go on joyrides every weekend or two to keep her happy. Engine is making a strange noise at idle. My M3 still drives fine. When I get a chance, I have to look into it. 105-110 deg F in LA recently. I have been mainly working on leather restoration and Paint/PPF/Ceramic Coating for the Fall...cosmetic mods.
I might have to add some LM Ceratec engine treatment to coat the metal engine parts...but it looks like a caffe latte (milky brown) when you do an oil change. Freaks out the mechanics.

Cheers
Thank you for that info. I’ve been running the OE 10W60 too, however after I found out that BMW released a bulletin to amend the oil requirement to allow 0W40 and 5W40... I’ve been asking various BMW mechanics what they think...

Many of them say that they would never run 10W60 in any car. The owner of Metric Motors told me he would run 5W40.

Have you ever thought about running a lighter oil to possibly preserve bearing wear?

I just started a new thread to help spread the word, and get these attorneys the ammo/evidence they need.

Is there a copy of that bulletin floating around somewhere? I'd love to see it.

Only on forums. BMW pulled it shortly after posting it (almost like it was an accident) and is back to recommending nothing but their own 10W-60.

If that's the case I'll be a happy guy since I've been on the paid in full interest free loan program to BE since the beginning of June... so one more month? No problem. However, I'm not holding my breath.

Did BE charge you for them before shipping? That seems a bit odd.

Ordered from BE or one of their vendors? The BE site says they do not charge until they ship.

Cheers,

I follow SSR performance in So. Cal. On Instagram and they seem to use ACL's on every RB job they do on the s65 these days. Not sure if it's more cost effective or they can't get BE's either. They used to be the home of the $1799 bring your own fluids RB job using BE/ARP. I asked them if they were mixing sets or using extra clearance. All I got back was "ACL"

I can't understand why ACL makes only H and HX.
H is OE specs, you never know how tight it is.
HX is a little oversized, you don't know how oil pressure will behave.
If BE's leaving this breach on the market, why doesn't ACL make some shell between H and HX, or even make a good analysis about oil pressure/flow in the HX shells?
They could make real money on this!

I am on the AT list as well. Wonder how many people they have waiting on bearings

I was always under the assumption that BE/AT were hand and hand in this, doesn't AT do the packaging and distribution? BE and AT use the same mailing address.

I have no idea what the business relationship is. I just know that the BE online shop clearly says they only charge your CC once the bearings ship.

Here is hoping stock is available soon for all ya all.

Plenty of people running oversized bearings and aren't reporting oil pressure problems

As deansbimmer has mentioned, you also have to take into account that the ACL shells do have typical manufacturing variance.

Regardless of H or HX or mix, the shells should be properly measured and matched to ensure target clearance is actually met.

Cheers,

BE and AutoTalent don't charge credit cards until the order ships. PayPal is charged immediately, and neither BE nor Auto Talent have any control over that. How did you pay, CC or PayPal?
