Funny thing, we're both in Colbert. We probably live down the road from each other and don't know it.

I'll be doing the bearings my self. I have a Quick Jack lift, not a full lift like you are describing. A guy with a set of Jack Stands could do this job, but getting the car all the way up in the air will be easier to work on.
👍🏻😂, what color are you? I’m a Interlagos blue e92. I’ve seen a Grey and a white one in the area.

Just got the car at the first of the month, so you might not have seen it around yet. Haven’t driven much as I’m at 132k miles and with my luck the Rod bearings will go right before the Bearing Kit arrives that I ordered.

BMW quoted me $2300 for the Rod Bearing job. They said book is 8.8 hours to do the rod bearings and the motor doesn't need to come out. I asked if they pulled the motor and did it, they said 15 hours.

Not that it makes it any better, but of the 5 shops I called here in town, I got a quote from BMW and the shop we're talking about. No one else has returned my call or emailed me.
BMW quoted $2300 for the job? why not go with them?

Because I have purchased the complete bearing kit, and I'm able to do the job myself. I wanted to see what it would cost to just drop it off and not worry about it.

BMW dealer only wanted 2.3k for the rod bearing job? Can you bring your own parts?

I asked and they said no for liability reasons. No big deal, but at least the price is competitive.

Ian at IS did my bearing a couple months ago.

My old bearings were not bad at all. Maybe some of the best 2009 bearings I've seen. Still happy they are done and happy with Ian's work.

Has anyone talked to Ian or dealt with IS Garage recently? Their website is up, but I sent a proposal request through their contact portal last week and have not received a response. Also, I called their number today and got an automated message that the phone (253-277-0581)has been disconnected.

Any other recommendations beyond G2's high prices?

I'm not sure if he did or not. I just talked to him last month about a quote on the rod bearings on my car. He didn't mention anything about moving but I didn't ask.

My 2011 is at 57k, I'll have the bearings done at the next oil change in a few months along with engine mounts.

I also talked to Kassel Motorsports in Fife at the same time. Their quote was $300 higher and the guy I talked to was pretty knowledgeable about the rod bearing job. I'll probably go with Ian just because he seems to be known for it and has installed bearings on several engines that race (and lived).

I live in Tacoma near Kassel, but work right next to Ian's shop in Kent.

FYI...Ian at IS Garage (nee IS Motorsports) completed my rod bearings last week and did a very nice job. This was his first week in the new shop in Renton. He accommodated my evening drop off and pick up requests, sent me pics, accepted my parts and was just a super nice guy. Reasonable pricing, best I found in the Seattle area. Overall would highly recommend and I will return for future service and upgrades.
Thanks all for the tip to search Ian out while he was moving his shop!

Thanks for the FYI TMANN.

What all did you have done? I was going to have him do rod bearings and engine mounts. Then I got to thinking, might as well have him do Ohlins R&T as well.

What was his turnaround time?

That's what I had done as well, plus I replaced the oil pan with a VAC baffled pan. Two days, as quoted, though I picked up on the 3rd day.

TMANN,

Do you have a phone number for them? Their website shows the 253 number and their address is still Kent. Phone goes to the "this number is no longer in service" recording.

Thx

That's unfortunate their info hasn't been updated yet. The shop is definitely open, so not sure how he's getting customers other than perhaps a good client base? The garage was full when I was there the first week he opened. Ian was very responsive via his mobile, I'll send it via PM so its not all neked here in the forums.
