Buyer Beware

I created this account to post a wtb thread in the fst forum but doesn't look like I can until I prove myself first. I was also going to post this there instead so if this the wrong spot please move and my apologies.

I just wanted to give a heads up there is an older gentleman selling a 2011 MW 6spd ZCP slick top with 20k miles for what I think is a decent price. His name is Randy Dines and the car is in Middletown Ohio. If you have come across this guy then you know he's a pain and seems very shady. It's his terms or no deal. He will not provide service records and he will not allow to have a ppi. I called the dealer where the car was purchased they only have record for 3 recalls and 3 oil changes for 2017 2018 and 2019. All with recorded mileage starting at 19k but nothing before that. Not even recommended 1200 mile main. The Car fax lists absolutely no service history whatsoever. I never seen a Car fax that didn't have a single service entry. All it shows is yearly registration renewal. If you seen it and want to persue beware you'll have to do an inspection on the spot if he'll even allow that. Also I suggest speaking with him over the phone. He doesnt put out a good vibe. He tried to sell me on why ppis are pointless. Im curious what hes trying to hide.

This guy definitely sounds shady. Someone who has nothing to hide would not mind if you did a ppi. I assume the car has been in an accident. You can also invest in a paint depth gauge to see if the car has ever been repainted. You would still have a challenge in figuring out if the car is mechanically sound though.

When people have that attitude. It usually means they know they fucked up maintaining. And they are mostly angry at themselves for not correctly servicing the vehicle. He might also think PPI is a waste of time. But if someone is spending 30g he needs to allow one lol

He probably realizes, the car has 20k. How much maintenance could it possibly need? I’m sure he’s getting a lot of the same questions from high profile people wanting to purchase the vehicle. And he’s overwhelmed, and probably sick of answering questions that he doesn’t have answers to.

Whoever the guy is. Needs to step back. And just let it be inspected for a pre sale arrangement.

I would suggest you share this info in the local forum, too. There are regional/local forums for each part of the country.

Also might be useful to share the VIN.

He is overwhelmed with calls. Or so he says. People asking what he considers stupid questions. Maybe it's just me but I would help in anyway I can to sell my own car. Especially if someone agrees to their asking price. The Guy won't even fetch records from the dealer but he's willing to have the dealer write up a letter saying the car is up to date on all service.

Right, because it's not like he could slip the guy a hundred bucks to do that, or that it might be some friend of his...lol.

No need to make anyone aware of this dude, because if it's anyone in there right mind they would pass on this guy in a heartbeat.

Doesn't matter if you think you know you have the unicorn of all unicorns, or your car is so mechanically sound that you take offense to others asking about how it was maintained.

Cash is king and you must obey the simple requests of someone whose trying to throw their cash at you.

This guy will have to just figure out why his "mint" low mileage example is not selling on his own.

While the rest may be filled with red flags, this is not one. None of my cars show much for service because I avoid the dealer like the plague and the two independent mechanics I use do not report to Carfax.

Carfax and AutoChek are rife with errors and I'd actually think less of my mechanics if they DID use them.

Maybe this guy is just a grumpy old man who hates stealerships and tire kickers and his car is a pristine 20k mile garage queen with annual fluid changes that's never been in the rain and only hand-washed.
