Thanks.

Here's my attempt at scoring, although this is relative to its class and competitors such as the iD4, Model Y, Bolt, Kona EV, etc, so a 5/5 on a Mach-E is obviously not the same as a 5/5 on a Porsche.

Ford Mustang Mach-E
Price 3.5/5 - Middle of the pack pricing. Bolt EUV and Kona Electric offer more value, while Model Y requires more upfront cost. On par with iD4. Tax Credits still apply.
Performance 4.5/5 - Runner up for class-leading performance after Model Y.
Interior Quality 4/5 - Plenty of soft-touch materials and sturdy quality. Flimsy shifter and stalks offset an otherwise nicely furnished interior.
Practicality 4/5 - On par with iD4, Model Y still leads, Bolt and Kona lag behind, overall spacious for compact class and "coupe-like" looks.
Technology/Ergonomics 3/5 - Average and all touch, bit of a learning curve.
Handling/Driving Dynamics Best in class.
Design/Appeal 5/5 - Best in Class.

Conclusion An EV you'll actually want to buy, and finally a real Tesla-fighter.
Tesla Model Y
Price 2/5
Performance 5/5
Interior Quality 2.5/5
Practicality 5/5
Technology/Ergonomics 4/5
Handling/Driving Dynamics 3/5
Design/Appeal 3/5

Conclusion Does all things EV and Tech well, needs work as a car though.
VW iD4 First Edition RWD
Price 3.5/5
Performance 1/5
Interior Quality 3/5
Practicality 4/5
Technology/Ergonomics 1/5
Handling/Driving Dynamics* 2.5/5
Design/Appeal 2/5
*Have not driven, only rode as passenger. Driving dynamics based off of reviews and friend who did drive.

Conclusion VW makes a soulless commuter car that lacks the perks of other VW's while still retaining all of their faults.
Chevy Bolt*
Price 5/5
Performance 3/5
Interior Quality 2/5
Practicality 2/5
Technology/Ergonomics 3.5/5
Handling/Driving Dynamics 2.5/5
Design/Appeal 1/5
*New Bolt and Bolt EUV to replace current model.

Conclusion The frugal choice, no other reason to buy this.
Hyundai Kona EV
Price 4/5
Performance 3/5
Interior Quality 3/5
Practicality 3/5
Technology/Ergonomics 4/5
Handling/Driving Dynamics 3/5
Design/Appeal 3/5
Conclusion Nice and well rounded, but wait for a real effort with the Ioniq5.

Totally not my cup of tea, but glad you like it. I think the name is all wrong (being a V8 and gasoline loving person from Detroit myself), but I hope they sell well. Ford needs a winner to keep serving us non-EV crowd manual V8s we can enjoy.

So iD4 gets 1/5 even in tech/ergonomics? I haven’t driven it, just curious.

Tech is abysmal and incredibly laggy or unresponsive, controls are awful and impossible to use safely, voice control doesn't work well, many features buried in menus's, VW cheaped out and removed rear window switches (one of the stupidest cost savings features ever), it was very difficult to engage the rear windows due to the touch controls. System even crashed once while driving. For a production car it felt very unfinished.

While the Mach-E and Tesla also use a lot of touch controls they are much more responsive and controls aren't buried as much. I had to look at a few Youtube videos to see if the lag was just on my my tester but other videos mentioned it as a sore point. Usually tech and ergonomics are a VW strongpoint (mk7 golf is a great example of this) but here it was poorly implemented. Apparently VW had a large amount of issues with this in the iD3 as well, as well as delays due to software bugs. I think I even read somewhere they demoted one of the employees because of it.

Agree, the name is still a reach, but I do hope it sells in favor of more awesome Mustangs. Although I will say, the dealer also had a Mustang Mach-1 and it was just okay, I'm still sad about the loss of the GT350 and its magnificent voodoo V8, so I guess the Mach-1 which is essentially replacing it will always have big shoes to fill. I was able to drive one through the mountains and fell in love with it, just such a great vehicle, worth it even with its addiction to drinking oil.

Complaining about the Mach E being called a Mustang is clearly ignoring all the four and six cylinder turds rolling around. And pretty much all sad Mustangs from the mid 70's to the mid 90's.

A great new video from Jason Cammisa on the Mach-E

Great review but Mach E is having tons of issues already.
Definitely lease these things.

I will keep getting ICE for now until someone releases a EV that can charge to full as fast as I can fill up at a gas station at the same cost or less.

Great detailed review, man!

It hurts my heart to see dealerships put on front plates!

Yep, that's pretty much all MD dealerships sadly. Even the local BMW dealer puts them on 4ers which make them look even worse.

Thanks for the thoughtful review ! I like everything about it except the name and what I feel is a sub-standard range, should be another 100 miles before I would consider one.

As with a lot of great vehicles right now, timing is not on the Mach-E's side as Ford just can't build enough of them to give Tesla a run for their money. I would have like to see how this car could have fared in a non-pandemic environment. Hopefully in the coming years Ford can up their manufacturing capacity. I have a theory that the F-150 Lightning will be afforded considerably more resources than the Mach-E seeing the F-150 is their bread and butter vehicle and always their top priority.

People must be buying these left and right. Ive been seeing truck loads of these on the highway everyday for the past 2 months. In fact, I’ve been seeing truck loads of EV’s nearly everyday on the highway, but I’ve noticed that a lot of the trucks are carrying Mach-E’s. As a more traditional car guy, seeing these masses of EV’s being transported on the highway on semi’s reminds me of that scene in iRobot when the new bots come in mass and start replacing the obsolete bots which get taken away and stored in containers.

You better get used to it because pretty much all manufacturers will be going the center screen route (as well as the gauge cluster). After you get used to the screen it's actually not that bad and some manufacturers still keep knobs for volume and HVAC, which I agree should stay as physical dials.

Soon not only will a bunch of physical buttons and knobs make a car's interior look dated, but it will probably make it easier for manufacturers to streamline all controls into a single touch screen.

I test drove the Mach E GT with performance pack and absolutely hated it. The car itself felt and looked cheap to me, with a really odd selection of chintzy materials.

The performance was ok, but you can only hit full throttle for I believe 5 seconds before the car cuts power to conserve the battery.

YMMV, but a monumental disappointment for me personally.

Dual motor non-GT models are the sweet spot as the GT isn't worth the price premium.

It's because they're made in Mexico and the shipping "port" is Kansas City. That's why we're seeing so many truck loads of them rolling through the KC daily.

Eww... are people really buying these? I think I've seen two on the road and most people seem to think the car itself is a debacle.
