Smile ZHP shift knob + custom M-color-stitched alcantara boots

I had my M performance wheel installed months ago (original thread: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=605035) and it always bugged me that it was the only alcantara material in the car. So when I started researching about the ZHP knob, I thought it would be nice to get an alcantara shift and brake boot while I was at it. Searched around and came across leatherz.com and found out I could get alcantara boots with the M cross stitching. So that's exactly what I ended up doing.

The quality of the product is great. My only gripe is that the stitching doesn't match the width of the stitching on the wheel. If I had known, I would have measured the width on my wheel and asked if they could match it. But regardless, I think it looks quite nice and ties in with the wheel better.

I can't comment on the ZHP knob as I haven't gone out for a drive yet, but it does sit a lot lower than stock and the weight is a lot better.

Looks Great! Awesome Complete interior there!

Did you send your OEM boot and Knob to leather Z? How's that work exactly? Or did you just have them send you the new boot, and knob?

Interested in doing the ZHP knob (but has to be illuminated so I'm sending them my OEM)

I just had them send me a new boot and knob. Illuminated knob would be nice, but I didn't want to pay for it.

I dont think it's THAT much more. (The one illuminated with the ///M badge I know is 115$ extra) but I think the other option is same price as a non-illuminated ZHP knob.

Regardless, thanks for info. Looks great!

All of the pricing is on their site. It gets quite expensive with the OEM ring bases, but I didn't want to cut my stock ones out.

Yeah that must be why it's $430 then just for the boots.

The only way we can get the mounting ring is to buy an OEM shift boot (on the M3, with the shift knob, it is very expensive). You can send us your mounting ring and we can use it or we sell boots without the ring and you can mount the boot to the ring. Both of these make the boots much more affordable.

Shifting feels a lot better. I didn't measure, but it seems like the ZHP knob sits at least 1 inch lower than stock. The stock knob made it feel like the shifter flexed a bit. The ZHP knob seems to have eliminated this feeling. It feels more crisp and direct. I rate this mod up there with the clutch spring removal.

Oh yeah.. definitely about one inch. Plus weighted. Plus completely filled in (lots of dampening). 100% improvement. Photo sucks, but yeah it's about 1".
