Not making much sense there at all.
With the bore and stroke meant for high-revving and an 8500 rpm and a displacement of only 4.4 Liters, there is no way 370 ft-lbs will come out of the crank at any point in the rpm band unless the change the stroke of the car and lower the redline by 2000 rpm. It is meant to be a ferociously powerful car with focus on throttle sensitivity and control rather than a bottom-end torque monster. Secondly, what's up with the comparison with M1?? regardless of what's on the paper, this car will eat the M1 alive and spit it out anywhere and anyplace. Not to mention, it will sound as good as the M1 could never even dream of while doing it.

However, I agree in context it makes little sense. The S65B40 makes about 300 ft-lb, so expecting such a huge increase in torque from a 10% displacement bump is pretty off-the-wall. Plus, I doubt that the torque curve of the Ferrari V8 is as flat as that of the S65. As we know, it's not just about peak torque - total area under the curve is important. |

and tiny restrictors. It is capable of much more
than that without them.

Yeah, I think comparisons to a GT2 spec built road car are a little pointless... the 4 cylinder 1.5l M12 engine could output 1,300 hp in a race car!
I still wonder why BMW aren't talking about homologating THIS engine for use in the GT cars? |

I have been wondering the same since the GTS was first announced. I can see the logic in the M3 GT2 and Z4 GT3 keeping the P65B40 since the longer stroke might mean less durability and those engines are already power-limited by series regulations and such anyway. But it seems like the M3 GT4 would be a great candidate for the 4.4L motor. Perhaps it has something to do with the small number of GTS being made and non-global availability. They want the GT4 to remain legal in as many series as possible, and they might not meet homolongation requirements if they go with the 4.4L motor.

In a straight line, maybe. Around a race track, no chance in hell whatsoever. They are built with completely different focus. One is a two-seater with a rollcage and fire extinguisher while the other is a four-seater with amenities. The under 7:40 will be almost impossible to match for the M1.
