Final V12

While purchasing my 2022 X3M, the dealer I went to had this... thing

Absolutely floored that this small dealer in Tyler TX would have one of only 12 unicorns.

It was something else

If you compare it to the S70/2, it's about as much of a unicorn as a sheep turd.

Did they need a 13th piston for the trophy or had it already thrown a rod?

J/k did you take it for a spin?

Well if it isn't dripping oil on the showroom floor now, it will be dripping oil at the junkyard in 4 years when the warranty is over.

Drive it, it's a fucking amazing feeling. Peak torque by ~1500 RPM and holds all the way to 7000 RPM redline. Only needs ~11 pounds of boost to make it's power, way over-engineered. Stage 1 Dinan tune alone makes 800 ft/lb.

I presume they chose the customer, rather than the dealer. That was the story when they announced it. I’d have liked a brighter colour, but that’s just my personal choice.

Yah, it's kind of a disappointing options list. It's missing some of the really good stuff that makes this a special car beyond the V12.

Just checked out a video of this car and I like the way it sounds. Pretty nasty but not ridiculous.

True, but why not have both?

There are a few options that car lacks that I got with mine that I really enjoy having, and do get used a lot. If you are gong to get a special car, don't get one with just base options, splurge and get the good stuff while you are at it.

What a monsta! IMHO a boat like the 7 series needs a motor like that to be interesting. Without it it’s just a grandpa car.

Never cared for options myself
just a money making scheme
then again I also hate "tech"
and "luxury" LOL

Assuming the car was purchased because it is special, why not get stuff that accentuates that special nature?

Then there are the missing options I use a lot : rear seat entertainment and Night vision. I thought there was another, but the car listing is gone so I can't confirm anymore.

These are expensive options, but really set the car apart and add a lot of present value to me, and as an investment car I think they add future value.

These V12's are actually very reliable. As rare as they are, never see them in the shop even for a busy dealer in a large area. Definitely don't have the issues of N63's.

That was one of the draws for me as a car guy that has built a lot of turbo motors. It's only running .8 bar (~11#) of boost, it's hardly "working" at all to make that 600+ HP by comparison to the hot-V N63's. It should last a long time, and the bugs were worked out of the platform long ago. That and the easy torque. When I did my research, I could find almost no reports of problems indicative of design issues or vulnerabilities in the N74B66TU version.
