Backup Camera - Do I reeeally need a Relay?

'08 E93 M3 Pre-LCI
Added LCI Taillights
Coded out the Kalt and Warm bulbs checks

I'll be tapping into the reverse light to pick up the power for the camera. All threads I have read suggest I need a relay triggered from the reverse light but direct power feed to the camera from the battery. All posts indicate that the reverse light doesn't deliver enough power/voltage to drive the camera well.

But as i am thinking about it, how much of that is do to the bulb checks? If I have now coded the checks out, can I power the camera directly from the reverse light itself?

Maybe, but I doubt it would last in the long run. Camera prob needs more juice than the bulb, and cable only designed to run the bulb. Just use a relay and do it right once.

Run a relay, it's there to protect the electrical circuit.
