Proper quality carbon fibre?
Guys - there seems to be so much cheap carbon fibre out there I've lost track of who makes decent quality kit. I originally thought I'd be going Mode Carbon but it seems like those guys nose dived in recent years….
I'll be buying a GTS V1 style splitter and some side skirts for my E92. Anyone have any recommendations?? I'm in the UK but may well buy from the US if that's where the better kit is. Thanks! Gordon |

Secure the lip on the bumper first as the bumper is very flexible and then secure the bumper on the car last.

I remember some m3 post members stating their fibreglass ones were a bit off in the bottom of the lip. My old Chinese one had better fitment. |

so? looking at the image you're showing with the "gap" one your lip sat to far back, and looking at the second image you shown, look like you solved it by actually pulling the lip forward more and conformed the bumper to the lip. so tell me, what is shit here the the lip or the fact you installed it wrong the first time? and the fact you think modecarbon produces these lips, all they need to do is buy from someone else and pay a factory over seas to produce a mold and repeat or buy existing product from a manufacture that's guess what? in china/taiwan - even lately Vietnam. you're literally buying the same product, just from different factories. all if not most cf/frp parts are going to be the same, unless the company selling it is putting the time to test fit, shape, and create the mold them selves. then send said mold/product to a factory that follows strict manufacturing ISO. the ones that don't follow manufacturing ISO are generally the ones with the bad fitment.

The second photo is my previous lip I had on the car from RW carbon.
360 carbon is a German company that make their own products to OEM standard supposably… Take chill pill man. |

What about Mode Carbon? Anyone bought from them lately?
Their V1 splitter design looks good (and used to be on quite a few of the well known E9X builds) but I saw some pretty negative chat about them last year. |

@MilehighM3 has a fully carbon OEM GTS style 2 piece lip and extendable splitter that's really something!

Yeah it's so nice I haven't even installed it yet. PPF and ceramic coating is all I've managed the time to do with this beautiful piece. Anyone need a nice lip fresh from Germany via IND? Haha

I had a similar experience, but after 2 emails they never responded. So I guess bad service would be an improvement. I have an awesome rep from Alpha N that fits perfect. In mock up stages at least. No time to drive my car, let alone modify it more. 😔

If you can get the layup schedule of the parts that would probably help you. Lots of cheaper parts are plastic with a beauty layer of carbon on top or they will be made from fiberglass and either painted black on the undersides and have a layer of carbon on the show side or Ive seen some where they use black resin to hide the fiberglass.
My car came with expensive but cheaply made exterior parts that where plastic with carbon fiber skins. It was only a matter of time before they delaminate. I replaced them quickly. Sure some will be ok but they are a gamble. Fiberglass mixed with carbon is perfectly fine and will last just as long as full carbon but you shouldn't pay full carbon prices for it. The highest quality will be full carbon, either prepreg or resin infused. Look for those key words. If a company takes the time and money to use those methods than I would assume fitment would be spot on. But then again fitment is sometimes subjective to the installer. |
