15,000km service... $6000

Hi guys,

Just trying to prove a point. A friend of my brother told me that the 15,000 km service (Consisted of brakes, and oil) cost him $6000.

Is he full of shit or what? $6k?!

Am I missing something here? I am yet to pay over $1k for any service on the M3 to date. Although I must confess I am yet to replace the brakes or pads. I've done 26k km in my '07 M3. Oil changes are around $500 in Perth. Are the M3 brakes that expensive? Pardon my ignorance.

FMD you must be driving your family around in your car every time you drive for your brakes to last 26,000km. Mine lasted just over 8,000km before I had to change them, although it did include two track days.

Agree with what the others say about walking out of BMW service feeling like you are being screwed. They are rip off merchants and I don't really want to go back.

If pads or discs are worn just get the parts from the US or something if you want to use OEM and get a local mechanic to change them...or do it yourself, it's not very hard

And I wouldn't know how much pads cost on an M3.. I drive a 1 series

Just was giving me a lot of shit for my purchase so I was curious. Told him I wouldn't give a fuck even if it was 6 grand!

Mate, we were stirring you up! But these cars aren't cheap to run. An oil change costs me around $700 - and I choose to do it every 6 months, regardless of what the CBS tells me.

Not true Rossi, the Castrol oil our cars take costs $70/litre. So yes, there is the bigger capacity engine but it's not as if we can just go down to Super Cheap Auto and buy a bottle off the shelf.

Just on that, is anyone aware of whether we can actually buy the specific oil for the M3 anywhere other than the dealer?

Jeezus - Last time I looked it was $25/L!! And that was only last year! Unfortunately I think it's only available from BMW.

I think I paid about $480 for an oil change when I hit the one year mark. BTW - I'm on 21,000km now, done two track days and STILL on the same PS2s and brake pads! Must not push hard enough.......
