Engine Blown on Sunday (VIDEO ADDED)...PROGRESS!!

On Arlington BLVD Sunday afternoon heading into DC and all of the sudden the car starts making odd noises and power is reduced.

I eventually get to my destination and park the car, no check engine light, no overheating, just the awful noises.

Long story short, tow it to Fairfax they look at it yesterday, send the video to BMW and it needs a new engine to the tune of about $25,000.

Car is 12 months old with 20,3xx miles on it...new engine is two weeks out...new engine FTW

7-28-14 ..... After taking multiple parts of the engine apart Fairfax was able to conclude that a rod in cylinder 5 broke. BMW approved the new engine, engine arrived late Thursday and should be able to pick up the M today or tomorrow!

Won't do that. They still have to repair and resell.

Sorry to hear about your luck. Seems like the rod bearing issue is becoming more and more of a problem.

Assuming it's being replaced under warranty?

Cars been at Fairfax since Sunday night...went there Monday to discuss some things, and it sounds like it's all under warranty (better be--$75k car 12 months old w/ catastrophic failure)....yesterday BMW HQ told them to take off the valve cover gaskets to check out the top of the motor so I hope to hear something today.

They better be giving you a loaner and ask BMWNa to cover a payment if you're paying monthly.
Sorry to hear this. Unfortunately, you've been added to the registry.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

I had the same thing happen. driving through old town and my car just shut off and wouldn't engage in any gear. BMW ended up replacing the engine under warranty with only 20xxx miles on it.

Another one bites the dust. This rod bearing situation is out of control.
