1. AFE AIR FILTER $100

3. Pulley $400
4. Mid pipe $2000 OR
Get a test pipe for $500, and trade light rims for $1500 (recommend)

give about 50 HP gain.
+1. Test pipe and tune is going to be the best bang for the buck. Been tuning tons of those! The difference between stock is huge.

Thumbs up

Yes, but that won't help you much for performance mods if your budget is $3500.

not meant to thread-crap but you guys do realize that this thread is almost a year-old right?

and the OP's signature now shows "Dinan Rear Exhaust, Secondary Cat Delete, Dinan High Flow Carbon Fiber Intake, IND Painted Reflectors, BMW Edition Grills"

so im guessing he already made his investment

Buy used and don't waste your money on the BMW or akra at this point. Used x pipe with hfc's and a sport rear section...

Just for perspective, I'm $2k in already with just M performance grills and a used Eisenmann Race w/ connecting pipes. Debatable whether this rear section exhaust or any other actually make any power. In my case the throttle response is a helluva lot better.

But weight saved in the back of the car is nice in a straigt line but not so sure about it really being so important.

I'd get:

MS test pipes: ~400
Mike Benvo tune: ~1000

Save the rest for track usage, like tires, brake pads etc.

Looks like OP was poorly informed.

Secondary cat delete: pointless /money wasted.

Test pipes (primary cat delete): big HP gain and 0 smell if you keep the rest the stock midsection intact = happy driver and happy wife/kids.

So in answer to the original question of "mods that would give me better HP/TQ for the same money":

_Intake
_Pullies
_Test pipes
_Tune

You can do all that for WELL under 3500. I got all Macht Schnell stuff. Soon to get a tune and I couldn't be happier already

Springs, Exhaust mod, Primary cat delete and Tune. That will get you the most bang (looks, sound and power) for your $3500.

drop in filter and pulley best proven bang for the buck (hp vs money spent) if want to stay compliant with emissions laws (and maintain good citizenry). Then would go for tune.

I have the Corsa exhaust and Eibach springs on my car and love both! I was afraid to put springs only but finally I'm happilly surprise at how the car is still smooth and feel more sportier at the same time, and the best part is the drop is perfect, go for it! My next mod is the Turner test pipes!

Edit: LOL happy I'm not the first one to awnser a year old question! LOL

Where are the dynos showing that removal of both the primary and secondary cats is pointless and a waste of money because no power is gained over removing just the primary cats?

California guys with test pipes:

Is there a way to clamp back the primary cats when smog time comes around?

Having to "weld" the cats back on and then having to re-cut them after passing smog doesn't sound that appealing .

A nice alternative is for somebody to sell a "clamp kit" for the factory cats so that this process is as easy as pie in the out years.
