Oem M performance mirror cap fitment

Years ago when I purchased my car, it came with oem M performance parts (splitters, decklid spoiler, & mirror caps). the splitters and decklid spoiler all fit perfectly, but the mirror caps fit unevenly around the edges so I always had my doubts as to whether they were authentic oem parts or not.

I finally got around to taking them off, and took a look inside and it seems to be genuine. The part number also matches what I found online.

Question is, anyone else have ill-fitting oem mirror caps? I found this to be strange since I expected M performance parts to fit close to perfectly. I've seen pictures of others and they fit much better than mine. The issue is also on both sides, not just one mirror cap.

I played around with the fitment, trying to push it into the tabs a bit more but had no luck so far.

I'm thinking the adhesive used to attach the tabs on the inside got soft from being left out in the sun and maybe shifted the fitment a bit.

I've attached photos trying to highlight the fitment as well as the weave quality (which is pretty good imo)

I had OEM CF mirror caps on my F06 M6, brand new from the dealer, and yeah they never truly fit as well as the original painted ones. I think it's just a product of CF, and how it will never be perfect.

Ended up getting these for my e92, 2nd hand. The fit is a better than you picture above, but not perfect by any means.

So there are two ways to install these... One is the pop on, pop off method, and the other is take the mirror out so you can see the clips.

Might be worth while to pop your mirror glass out (carefully) and make sure all the tabs are lined up. If you're not comfortable doing that, apply a little bit of heat, and some pressure and it might pop them in a little easier.

Good luck!

Mine line up fine but pop off easily... it's always been in the back of mind that someone could steal them in 7 seconds in a parking lot.

Taking the mirrors out didn't even cross my mind haha. I'll give that a shot once I have some time on my hands.

Thanks for the tip!

My driver side mirror pops off easily as well. Not too sure about the passenger side. I actually bumped into it once and a couple of the tabs came detached to where I can just pull it off. Does make you think about how someone can just walk by and pop them off the car lol
