Florida man vs M3
Driving back from the Smokies last night... hundreds of curves, trucks, cars .. no issues for hours...everyone driving normal.
Then you enter Florida and crazy s#it starts to happen. About 9 hours in my drive (south of Ocala) I pass a nice looking space gray M3, he/she is driving normal, about 75mph. I was going a 'bit' faster passed him took an exit about 5 miles ahead to get gas, and got back on the hwy. I see the same M3, now being tailgated by one of those stupid lego block cars (kia soul- square looking weird cars). I approach in the left lane, admiring the M3 again, we are going about 80 mph, the lego car gets in front of the M3 and slams the brakes drops down to less than 30 mph!!! Almost to a full stop! IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FAST MOVING I-75!!! Thank God the M3 driver was alert and able to brake and not slam into the idiot. It all happened within seconds.. Somehow the right lane was open and M3 took off, (awesome exaust sound btw) kia started chasing after the M3 but no luck. I followed him for a bit but he must have figured it out and abruptly took an exit. I was in such shock that something like this could intentionally happen on I-75 that I didn't have time to take a pic of the license plate, and I so wish I did. I have noticed people act and drive weird here when I am in my M3, I've been yelled at, tailgated, followed, cut off, all kinds of crazy stuff by people in some beat up fords, nissans etc. It is almost a normal thing in some parts of FL... but so far this is the craziest situation I have witnessed. After a while I passed the M3 again, he was just driving the speed limit in the middle lane. It was a miami heat black license plate M3 (dont want to write the whole plate here). If you are on here pls drop a line and tell us wth happened to that moron. I am guessing he got his ego shattered when M3 passed him earlier on and he 'had to' do this to get a fix. I wish I did...After this I am getting one for sure. Already looked online. I was a bit tired already around 10pm, my bf & son were asleep and i couldn't grab the phone quick enough. I was concerned about the wellbeing of that M3 driver, dropped the speed as much as I could to stay close. Would have stopped if something happened. Glad it played out ok in the end.

I got the Escort radar detector and dash cam combo. I do a lot of driving for my daughter's travel ball team and being in a X5 will draw people like this. This was like an attempt at insurance fraud.

It's not just Florida. In two cross-country trips with California plates I felt hostility almost everywhere outside of big cities. I've been cursed, keyed, spat at, egged, tailgated, cut off, pushed off the road, taunted, and threatened. A woman yesterday went completely nuts when, instead of mowing down two jaywalkers, I slowed to let them pass. Little do people realize my M is worth less than their $45K F-150. I may be driving a furrin hotrod, but I feel like Captain America (if you've seen Easy Rider).

Driving in Miami is insane... it's a lawless swamp out there where cops don't even pull you for dui/open container let alone speeding running stop signs etc. I stayed out there for a while and was foolish enough to take a motorcycle. I rode in once I think and sold it after someone knocked it over in the parking garage.

Wow. That happened to me when i was driving my s4 audi years ago with my wife and kids in the car. Ford f150 start slowing down on the left lane from 80 to 30 and turned his lights on which was an undercover cop. We were so terrified and he pulled us over on the left lane at night time and forced my wife to get out from the car as well. I said she will not getting out from this car since the door opens to left lane of the highway. He yelled at me i yelled that him. That was the most f*Cked up thing that i ever witnessed here.
And he was going on the left lane with 55 and couldnt handle me coming behind with 75 - 80 on the left lane. At that point you can expect anything from anyone here! I have alot of cops friend and clients. And i do have high respect for their services. But he was not a good one for sure!

Every licensing agency should make this mandatory and test on it.

When I lived in NJ I thought driving there was bad; fast forward many years and when I go back to visit, I find driving there to be quite civilized in comparison to South Florida!
There's a guy in my neighborhood with a Tesla and a blue F-150 and every time I see him on the main roads, he's driving like he's having a roid rage - on his way to drop off his KIDS AT SCHOOL. And I agree with SRB_Mpower that it's gotten worse with COVID. |

Welcome to Florida guys, we have some real crazies. The further south you go, the crazier they drive. Good luck! Especially with 2019-nCoV everyone acts like they are driving an armored truck and you better get out of their way.

I have lived in Chicago, NY, San Diego, Charleston SC, Houston and other places and here in Florida I feel like I need to be Mad Max behind the wheel and I mean that as in extra cautious and aware. It just blows my mind how people drive here. I love it here but driving is a challenge.

I've lived in a lot of places in the US and the first thing locals ALWAYS like to brag about is how bad their drivers are. You get the "no seriously, you don't understand". So when I moved to Florida a few years ago I heard the same stories and thought nothing of it, until after a few months of living in Tampa. This week alone I had a Tacoma tail gating me while I was in the right lane doing 15mph OVER the speed limit. He was pissed that I wasn't going fast enough so he aggressively passed me, gave me the evil eye and mouthed some crap and then swerved in front of me cutting me off. Had to mash the brakes and clean my underwear. Then he was doing the pull over so we can fight gestures. It didn't help that I busted out laughing. I have so many stories about these idiots down here, it's unbelievable. Florida has crazy idiot drivers.
I almost missed my turn a while ago and had to either slow way down or speed up and merge. Well M3, so I speed up and aggressively got into my turn lane, while using the indicators. I wouldn't say I cut this lady off but it definitely wasn't a great idea on my part. I did through your the I'm sorry about that wave to her. This women flipped out. She was screaming and punching her fist together pointing at me, flipping me off and just going crazy. She took pictures of me and the car and the plate. We pulled up next to each other at the next light and I said "I'm sorry about that" and she lost her damn mind and just went completely crazy like she's imbalanced or something. Our car insurance tripled when we moved from the Midwest to Florida and so I asked why. I was told that Florida has so many immigrant drivers with sub par training, super high rate of insurance scammers and overall poor drivers training. Every other state I've lived in we had to at least take a written test to transfer drivers licenses but Florida we just gave them our out of state license and they printed off a FL license. so yeah this state has shitty asshole crazy drivers. |

I'm in LA, which honestly isn't that bad. Mostly because it's difficult to do anything *that* stupid when you're going 5 MPH in bumper to bumper traffic 95% of the time. I travel a lot for work though, I've been Tampa / Miami, but it was just the two airports to Fort Lauderdale area at off-traffic times. Out of my travel experience in SD/SF/Seattle/Houston/DFW/Florida/AZ/LV/Detroit/Denver/KY/NY, I'm gonna say Dallas was the scariest, due to the crazy high speed of traffic on the 2-3 lane freeways, with monster trucks tailgaiting as you're trying to exit on the left. Limited sample size though, so definitely defer to your experience as you've lived in more places. Side note: If anyone has been to Korea, is it just me, or do all the taxi drivers there not know how to modulate the gas to keep a consistent speed? Every taxi I took would push the gas to go, and then completely let off, and then stab at it again over and over to keep speed. It was like it was a on or off switch instead of a pedal. I've never been seasick in a car until that trip. Last edited by jd501; 07-17-2020 at 09:43 PM.. |
