This explains the noise if you have it going into first or into reverse- its a worn carrier bushing

I've had the cowbell sound a couple of times and going back and forth with the ebrake on resolved it.

Best to do the following 3 at the same time.

- new guibo
- new CSB
- grease half shaft splines

Replaced my driveshaft back in Dec for the cowbell noise. The universal joint was the culprit.

I've already had both rear bearings replaced and diff fluid changed. I highly doubt it is a stone/pebble trapped between the caliper and heat shield, as some have suggested. This makes more of an inconsistent tumbling sound, as my guess is that would tend to make more of a consistent sound. I really tried to drive it off tonight, but it is now doing it continuously. I have no choice but to take it back to the dealer, but was hoping to get some help diagnosing it.

Here's a video:

Dude! My car did and does (every blue moon) the same thing! bend the rear shield away from the rotor slightly and see what happens. Sounds terrible when it happens huh? Makes you not even want to drive it.

I was hoping someone could look at this. My car is the the shop right now and my mechanic is troubleshooting the cowbell noise. He says the driveshaft and CSB look great, and that the sound is coming from inside the DCT. Does that sound right to you guys?

here is a video:

Skip to 1:00 to hear it come from DCT area. Is it the flex disk making noise?

I am not much of a mechanic or expert, but is he sure it isn't the guibo?

Mine looked ok too, but look isn’t important. A new center bearing eliminated the sound. Make sure he greases the splines.

Guys,
I just had the cow bell issue and it was loud like cans rattling under the car at low speed. I ended up jacking the rear of the car and put it in neutral. Spin the tyres and make sure the sound is the brake area. I then removed the wheel, brake and rotor to find everything is fine except for the build up of rust on the inner lining of the rotor hub. I have cleaned the inner hub with a wire brush to remove the rust build up and checked the parking brake mechanism before putting it all back. NO noise anymore
My suspicion is the rust and a misalignment of the parking brake caused it to bind at low speed and then the spring pops etc causing the noise. Hence at normal speed it wouldn’t bind but may cause heat and wear.
Hope this helps others the only PITA was removing a stuck rotor. After numerous rubber mallet hits, WD40 on the centre hub and a heat gun on the face of the rotor it finally came off.
Good luck with your issue if it’s not this or a pebble.
A previous post mentioned their dealership also found this.
