Dackel's Stelvio Pass photos...
I posted this on 1addicts... but I thought you guys might enjoy looking at these photos too.
Stelvio Pass Last month I decided on a little road trip South of the border. Namely to Stelvio. I think I have M3Adjuster to blame for it(!)… I got inspired after seeing his 1M ED photos of the Stelvio Pass. Thanks Mark! I really enjoyed my little weekend getaway… I hope you enjoy my photos… Passo dello Stelvio Mountain Passes… Stelvio Pass… http://maps.google.de/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=de&geocode=&q=stelvio&sll=4 6.832013,10.445251&sspn=1.129289,2.897644&vpsrc=6& ie=UTF8&hq=stelvio&ll=46.833892,10.612793&spn=1.12 925,2.897644&t=m&z=9&cid=17557302448737537878&iwlo c=A[/FONT] Nationalpark Stilfser Joch Via De Simoni, 42 23032 BORMIO SO Italia The Stelvio Pass is about a three plus hour’s drive from Munich. Basically I drove South direction Brenner(Brenno Pass) towards Italy. It is also the same direction to Innsbruck, Austria. Then you make a “right turn” onto the A12 Austrian autobahn, just past “Imst” you get off the autobahn and get onto the “180” road, towards direction “Nauders”. Nauders is where the that stone fortress (Festung Nauders: http://www.moesslang.net/nauders.htm] ) carved into the roadside mountain. It is a pretty cool place to stop by and take a look at. Twice a week (during the summer time, May thru October, on Weds and Sundays at 3pm) it is also open to the public, as a museum walking tour of 1.5 hours long (6 euros pp). For more info you can call: Telefon: Herr Thoma, ++43 (0) 5473 / 87242 Mobil: +43 699 17163160 As I drove thru the scenic village of Nauders (also a great place to stay if your looking for an overnight stay) I came upon a traffic jam (stua!). Not your normal stua though… this time it was the local farmers taking their alpine cows home for the evening! Cow videos – farmer’s cows coming home…. Then I drove all the way to the base of the Stelvio Pass to the small town of Stelvio, Italy. I found a really small and charming hotel in that small alpine village. Hotel Restaurant Traube This hotel was cheap (47 euros per night) and they also served dinner and breakfast AND had a WLAN internet access! Simply Wonderful! Dackel First some post cards… My photos… The Alps just South of Munich… You can buy an österreich autobahnvignette at any of the German autobahn gas stations as you head South towards the Austrian border… you MUST have one affixed to your car’s windshield BEFORE you enter Austria(österreich). Just entering Austria… A few tunnels later… Stopping for some “go juice” Shell V-Power100 octane… PKW = cars LKW = trucks Nauders Festung (Fortress)… The village of Nauders... Nice landscapes… Some castles in Italy just before the Stelvio Pass… My overnight hotel in Stelvio… Hotel Restaurant Traube Another turn of the century road side fortress from WWI… Awesome views! The winding road up… Shops at the summit… The huge rock pile on the North slope… There were quite a few very narrow tunnels to pass thru! Going down the Southern side(deeper into Italy)… wooden guardrails and smooth pavement… OMG! Many more tunnels ahead… It just got tighter and tighter! I wasn’t really expecting these long straights… Going down that dam gravel road into Switzerland(CH)… No guardrails, not stones, no nothing! Picture postcard village… Inside the village… Come classic post cards thru the years of Bournio… End. Many more of my photos here à http://s764.photobucket.com/albums/x...telvio%20Pass/ |

I still don't tire of Stelvio. There is just something about this mountain that keeps pulling me back to her.
Last gas station Austria(ie cheap-er fuel!) as the Italian border is another 200m up the road.... Schloss Nauders...
