M3 - Day 1

This evening at aprox 17:30 I collected my new M3 from Sytner of Leicester. My best mate took me down in his suped up Scobbie and my sales guy met me at the door.

He told me the car was ready however he said, "there is a slight mistake". I was worried that they have missed something off the spec or that the car was damaged.

He then proceeded to tell me that the problem was that the factory had fitted the wrong tyres onto my car. Instead of the standard Mich's they had put the "Mich cup (club sport)" tyres on my car.

These tyres are the tyres that the old CSL had on them as standard and the are meant to be used only in warm weather and are designed for track use.

He then told me that he would order the correct tyres ASAP.

He and the sales manager recommended for me not to take the car as the tyres are rubbish in cold wet conditions.

I was no way going to leave my new car there so I asked for options.

New tyres were going to take at least 2/3 days and I told him that was fine BUT I was still taking the car.

He then told me I had to sign a disclaimer to state that if I had an acident, that they were not liable.

I thought about it and thought fuck it, i'll sign it.

He then told me that there M3 demo would be back in the morning and that I could have the wheels off that car.

So I said cool - JD.

I therefore have to take the car back to the dealer tomorrow to get the demo car's wheels put on my car.

This is the first time they have had this happen and they only noticed 10 mins before I arrived at the garage.

Nothing seems to have run smoothly with the delivery, but hopefully after tomorrow, everything should be cool.

I'm going out now for another drive. I'll be back!!

BTW - This car is f**king AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn, lucky. I would have told them I was keeping the cups, and I'd pick up my other tires when they got there. Free track tires would be amazing.

Congrats geesus. I think they made all buyers of the old CSL sign that disclaimer. It wouldn't have stopped me either.

I look forward to your video. I'm still figuring out how to mount my little camcorder in the car for something similar.

I justed looked at your "garage" and you have a lot of great pictures in there. I want to say thanks for posting so many images of the dash and instrument cluster, by far the most extensive work we've seen to date in the US.

I wonder why BMW feels it necessary to have a digital and an analog monitor of oil temperature within an inch of each other in the main cluster.

I may be wrong, but I believe the digital oil read out is of volume of oil, not temp.

I beleive that in the picture you are talking about, the information about the oil displayed in the LCD is the oil level, not the temperature.

Congrats on the car , SS II is a nice color.

The tire "problem" is really interesting, seems like you're the first one with the Michelin PS Cup+ fitted as OEM tire. I don't think it's a mistake (besides the point that BMW could have waited 'till spring with OEM introduction of a UHP tire).

Could you post a picture of the tire tread?

Best regards, south

Cheers for all the comments!!!!!

I have spoken to the dealership and they are working the price out for the cup sports. Also I didn't bother getting the tyres changed with the dealers M3 as the cup sports are fine, if you take it easy. My new tyres and my IPod lead should be here next week. I went out last night and tried the adaptive highlights, they are very cool and worth getting if you drive on small country lanes.
