Hey, let's face the facts. E9X M3 is a great car, but it's unreliable. All the time new faults and fails come up.. this can't be true. My beloved beast has betrayed me too many times.

I think every new M3 owner should get a tent and a survival kit - you never know when it lets you down.

My latest attached. This aint fun anymore.

Gone are the days where cars are driven with a piece of mind. Computers are taking over! WHen I used to have my E36 M3, it was a pleasure to drive a purposeful vehicle, without having any computer interfering with my daily drive. The car ran absolutely flawless, and I didn't accumulate any grotesque warning signals coming from the DME.
Sorry about your dilemma. I would be upset too. The fact is you can drive the car to the dealer the same day or the next day trying to imitate the same problem, and the car will have what we call "new car syndrome".

That is more aggravating.

Proof that new technology does not always represent forward progress. Then again, without this technology you might never know that you had a fuel pump failure until it actually failed. catch 22...hope it is an easy fix.

Present automobile have more parts than ever before. More parts means higher probability of failure and not all parts were made my BMW. Because of the global economy, even auto parts are being sub-con. That is the current and future trend. It will not be cost effective if all the parts are made by just one auto company. And the most important thing, they were designed and build my MEN (both gender).

I wonder how the car knows the fuel pump is failing.....it must have a fuel pressure/volume sensor in the rail or something.....

I sure hope they are currently working on EDC harnesses/components, fuel pumps and the like right now instead of just pearlescent knobs for the interior. I didn't wait out the first year of US production for the knobs!

Sounds like the OP might be unlucky. OP, what other problems have you had with it? How many kms? When was it produced?

Without seeing global stats, it is impossible to say if the M3 is reliable or not compared some kind of standard. My car is trouble-free after 4800 spirited driving...

I had that same message show up a few weeks ago, the dealership replaced my ECU and all is right with the world. Was not even really off the road a day.

On my E46, they had to install a monitoring device to record fuel pressure while I drove to finally determine a bad fuel pump. Some things change, some don't! My new car is pretty much flawless at 4k miles.

Sorry about your car, but you realize there is no guarantee from any manufacturer you will receive a problem-free car, right? Perfection does not exist. For every car model, there is a percentage of lemons -- some models higher than others.

Your dealer will take care of this problem. Hang in there. There is an ongoing issue with fuel pumps in 335s. I hope BMW is not using the same one in the M3.

Yep, the advance of electronics has refined engines and control systems but introduced more 'gremlins'.

Frankly, 3 / 4 of the problems I have on our 5ers are electronics' related

The engines are great!

Ok, I overreacted, but still..

The fuel pump fault is my second major, the first one was with the valves - instead of having a V8 I had a shaking V4 with a sound of John Deere. So I've been unlucky.

My point is not to judge my M3, but this is frustrating and I'm disappointed. It's worth remembering that here in Finland the MSRP of M3 is 175 000 USD while in States its under 60k. There's a big difference and I think that with that price I have a right to have great expectations - without major faults.

Valeram, you mentioned this "global economy" thing. I know it, but I think that BMW has the final responsibility.

Hope that I'll get my beast back asap. Then one push, vroom and everything is forgiven - and forgotten.

I suggest letting BMW know how dissappointed you are after spending that much money on their product. Not the dealer, BMW directly. I would ask for compensation for the time you ended up spending without your car if you believe it's been gone for an unreasonable amount of time.

There is no amount of money that you pay for a car that guarantees no problems. You and that guy who just bought a Kia or Suzuki are in the same boat -- problems might happen. I agree it sucks. It's also fairly obvious that more than one person has had major problems with the M3. My point is that your thread title and initial post both make assertions that are unsupported by evidence.
