Anyone else LOVE driving it, but HATE putting miles on it?

Currently have 15K on my 2011.5 and bought it with only 1,700 miles in February. It it the sweetest car I have ever driven, I am in love with it, but I want to keep it "fresh"--stupid, I know.

Wondering if anyone else is anal about keeping their car "low mileage"..

Nope, it's my daily driver and I don't give the mileage a second thought. 2011.5 as well with 22k on the clock...

Break-in never ends for our engines. So the more you drive, the better it'll get.

nice idea, but these cars aren't meant to be garage queens. Good news is these engines run very strong all the way to 70k+ ...you've got time. I personally put 20k miles in one summer doing track days...yea, nelly.

If you're still concerned, get a second car to daily drive to work and keep your M at home for the weekends.

i don't drive that much in my daily life, living less than a mile from work,so i just drive it for fun a lot of the time.the car wants and needs to be driven-just look at all the threads about batteries dying.hell,on a cool day it takes 15 minutes for the oil to fully warm up.i know what you're saying because i used to feel that way about cars, but hell,i'm 57 now and probably won't wear this car out in my lifetime.i hope to keep it that long.

I have three cars. A "summer" car (Lotus Elise), a "3 season car" (M3) and a "winter/road trip car" (2010 TDI Golf).

Before I got the M3, I would drive the Golf really often, even during the summer. If the weather wasn't perfect for top-down enjoyment in the Lotus, I'd take the Golf and be happy about the 40+ MPG on my commute (vs _only_ about 28 MPG in the Lotus...)

Now, I have the BMW and it usually gets around 18 MPG on my commute but I talk myself into driving it over the much more logical VW even on relatively nasty days or on longer trips. So much so that I plan to keep the Golf through this coming winter, sell it in the spring and buy snow tires for the BMW or a beater SUV for next winter.

I love putting miles on my cars. To me, nothing feels like getting my money's worth out of the purchase than racking up some enjoyable miles behind the wheel.

Yes..I solve that by keeping it a weekend car..makes me appreciate it that much more, but when Friday rolls around I am in the only mad rush to get home and drive it.

I also hate putting miles on my car (even though I totally enjoy every second of it ) because I would like to keep it for as long as possible since I don't see any other car that I would like to own more then this one. But I know the smart move would be to get rid of it at around 75-80k miles, so that's why I hate to see the miles staking up. Also I just can't have a second car, to much fun to have in this one, even in the winter this car is perfect!!

why does everyone think that?? What do you guys think happens to these cars when you trade em in @ 80K? You think they're thrown out? People buy em and drive em to 250K

Have you owned a car till to 250K, I have..and they need everything from suspension and drivetrain overhaul, to clutch/tranny to alternators, power steering pumps, water pumps etc etc etc

On a late model M3 that will be quite a parts and labor bill..

So I can see why people would not want to keep one with very high mileage.

I used to think about this, then I remembered that every mile i drove was a kick in the ass. So in the end, it was worth it.

Well, I know this model of M3 is suppose to be very reliable and it's not the mechanic that I'm afraid of, it's more the electronic and all the gadgets that these car have that could get easily real expansive to replace, specially since I drive my car all year long, there's all kinds of sensors and modules that can malfunction that it could just be cheaper and easier to just switch for a younger M3 instead of maintening this one.

Maybe it's just my bad experiences with previous Audis that make me think this way. It's my first BMW but I've eard of some pretty bad thing about BMWs long time reliability. But anyway, you can be sure that I wont get rid of it untill I start earing horror stories from other owners!

EXCELLENT responses guys, didn't think this thread would go this far. Many different opinions, ALL helpful. I feel a little easier thinking about road trips now--after all, I DO have DVD-in-motion coded!
