DCT Test Drive

Ok.. I will finally get to test drive a M3 with DCT this week. What is a good setting for my initial drive?

Try as many modes as possible. They all have some distinct differences and subtlety. However if you have only a very short time I would try D4 and S4 for cruising and more aggressive respectively.

Definitely try D3 and drive around normally. Then, try S5 and S6. I came from an e60 M% SMG-III, and M-DCT is much better, but still has a few of the same annoying quirks - clunks when shifting into 1st gear and some excessive clutch slip on a medium fast take off.

That said, I'll take that over a grinding tranny any day!

Make sure the car is warmed up before you start evaluating DCT. The car can be jerky when cold.

If you want to test out Auto mode, try D4/D5.

For manual, S3 is good for normal driving. Use S4/S5 for more aggressive shifting/throttle blipping.

Also try the Power mode.

I really want to love DCT. I hope I don't go away from this test drive disappointed.

+1. It does not take long to warm up but is slightly more fussy when cold. If you drive it easy as you should be anyway warming up the engine I never get a bit of misbehavior.

I test drove the car with DCT today and I found it just the opposite of what some say.

The car drives like a 6MT minus the clutch - I Frickin Love it.

DCT FTW!

SMG left a bad taste in many mouths. I was totally impressed with the quick, smooth DCT shifts. I test drove the car in S3, S4, and D3.
