M3 vs. Cayman Turbo (981)
welp, this could get interesting... driving dynamics of a Cayman, similar power to the M3 with a simple tune

I agree, but it could be an incredible car if true. Seems too close to a stock 911 for comfort (and as a side note from another point in the article above, no way will Porsche put a four banger in the 911.)

Porsche only puts turbos on their flagship "Normal"/Non-GT Carreras. So if that's any indication, the Turbo would be the top of the range Cayman, leaving room for a non-turbo R or GT. Interesting...

Just took an up close and personal look at the new cayman recently and it is a beauty in person. I wish they made the turbo with the 6 cyl and not the 4.

I prefer a 6 cylinder engine in this car, but I'm sure the 4 cylinder turbo will be strong. Also likely to further improve driving dynamics due to lighter weight.

I'm not so sure...my interpretation of the linked article is that the 4 cylinder turbo will be found in the S. I am skeptical of this move. Hopefully they don't mess up this amazing car.

Just saw this at the la auto show. The dimensions are spot on and I'm sure the driving dynamics is also. But at an indicated 90k not fully loaded its going to be a tough sell to my better half of my brain.

It may even be positioned between the S and the base Carrera price wise. With good low RPM torque, may be a better DD than the current models. The Cayman has a great engine, but really comes alive at the higher end of the RPM scale.

Wow that cayman looks phenomenal. Would love to put one in my garage, but I'm sure it'll be a pretty penny.

Porsche is not stupid enough to kill the golden goose. There is no way Porsche will build a Cayman Turbo with more power than the Cayman S because it will kill the sales of the new 991 Carrera.
It's simple marketing. Porsche has been holding back Cayman ever since it was built even though it is a more capable car due to the mid-engine layout. They've kept both the engine and the suspension inferior deliberately so people would have to keep buying the 911 series over it. The Cayman R was a let down. I was expecting that car to come out with a serious Mezger engine. It would have sold a lot with a high revving 3.4L Mezger with around 350hp.

Guys guys, before you get your panties in a bunch the 350hp is rated, meaning it wont be near that number on a dyno. We would be looking at around 300hp-310hp if that. Yeah it will have more tq but remember this is the poor mans Porsche. They look great but an entry level car. Thats a fact.
I already went down this route last year looking at these and just could not justify buying it so went with the M3. Much better choice.
