Good News on Monday....

Been in touch with my dealer. He said they had received their allocation of M3's from BMW GB for this year and that the manager is sorting everything out (like who gets what I guess). He said for me to contact him again Monday 23 July for some "good news"...

I'll keep you all posted.

Definite

I guess this definitively lays to rest all theories of release dates before September. I can only hope the best estimates of March for the US are conservative. To the birthday boy: you lucky sucker, congrats!!

£1000 down and placed my order in May. I was told 1st July 2008 originally so Im not best pleased as you can imagine.

Dealer says he has 6 allocations for this year and doesnt know his allocations for next year yet and has 50 orders for M3 Coupes, Saloons and Convertibles in total.

Im searching round for a sooner delivery (ideally want it in April next year) so if anyone in the UK knows of anywhere I can get one for then, Im all ears.

Im just hoping that some drop out come September when they have to finally confirm their orders and I move up the list.

Worst thing is, at £55000, there isnt really any option but the M3 for a 2+2 coupe of this performance so they have me really.

BMW plans to sell 100,000 M3s worldwide so I think that they would allocate more to the USA and Europe, two of their biggest markets.

Well to give you some context, I have been on the list for 3 years (#8 in the queue) and the earliest I would be looking at delivery is Q2 2008, so I would suggest you aren't doing too badly.

There will be 300 M3's delivered to the UK in 2007, and a large percentage of customers have now moved their orders to take up the DCT option which begins in March/April 2008.

Oh I know the time isnt that bad for a car like this on its launch, its the false expectation (due to original timescales given) thats annoying. Im just dissapointed as you can no doubt understand. Ah well, on the upside that means it will probably come out of my 2009 money so maybe I can add another toy in 2008 instead.

BMW Wakefield say they would expect a 3 year wait for any orders placed today.

I think it will probably come sooner than you think, there is high demand but BMW have geared up this time and are planning a volume production run. Then there are the other variants (saloon, convertible) which will lighten the queue for coupes. The reality is that none of the dealers yet know what allocation they will be given for next year - they were only told about their 2007 allocation last week, so all they are doing (by saying 3 year wait) is trying to avoid over-promising.

Yes, I agree wholeheartedly. Im not going to get too excited but the introduction of the SMG (or whatever it will be called) option should open some slots too.

I doubt it. I remember reading that 50% or more of all M sales happen in the US, so they allocate the most vehicles by far for our shores. Also, I think the only brand that could sustain a wait list of much more than 6 months in the US would be Ferrari, and perhaps Lamborghini with the current bling-fabulous trends. There are too many other choices of automobiles out there for US customers to either buy right off the lot or order to exact specification and recieve within 3 months here for an auto maker to realistically expect someone to wait 3 years. As much as I love the M3, I wouldn't wait even a year for it.
