Powdercoat M359s
Hi everyone,
I am still not convinced that powdercoating the stock 359s will look better than the oem hypersilver finish. Open to suggestions |

Leave it. You can never go back to the original finish once you powder coat over it.
Buy another set, pick color, powder coat. Then decided if you like or not.. Sell if, no. |

I'm in a jam where I need to get mine refinished. Not because I want to, but because all 4 are basically beat to hell; curb rash, scratches etc. A local shop said they can get close via a repaint (not powder coat) to OEM hyper silver for $175/wheel. Another option which I've considered is a satin finish - I think gloss looks cheap and reminds me of winter wheels.
Personally, I think there's nothing better than freshly cleaned set of ZCP's.

Mine were pristine until one night coming home from a late flight exiting parking garage it happened. I just couldn't live with the damage wheel.
I was told on this forum I could never match the original hyper silver, tried and found out that is the case. The color was close but a discerning eye could tell the difference. The shop did a great job repairing the curb rash and I am the (for now) sole vote for bronze in the poll. Very happy how they look. |

@timothy2001 I have my doubts about a shop matching hyper silver close enough to not notice the difference. That color looks good on black

I had curb rash, and felt that shop will be unable to match all wheels to OE Hyper silver, so decided to get mine powder coated to gunmetal to keep the lines going on Jerez and a more aggressive look.

The color is a known color. Why can't a paint shop use the color? Is it not available to buy?

People don't like to paint this rim or really any rim for the matter in a dark finish because it basicallly drowns out any definition of the wheel. The very essence of the beautiful design is completely lost once you go glossy or matte black

The silver already pops against the blue! Looks great! Black would be cool if you had some yellow brakes behind it but black wheels always look dirty after a few miles , bronze would need to be dark so it doesn't look too Subaru-y. I might consider a titanium hue like that 1m s65 powered replica that someone posted recently, would look great against your blue car.

I thought about Powder Coating mine but literally every shop said they could not match the OEM color. I opted to buy new, paid around $2500 from a ebay seller (Dealer), could not be happier =D

Gunmetal wheels are always the correct choice for a blue car, preferably satin finish. M359s look great in silver but even better in gunmetal. Black is only appropriate on simple wheel designs- as others have said it drowns out too much detail.

Whether or not to get 359 style wheels refinished in a different color, in my opinion should depend on the color of the car. Creating a little contrast between car & wheel color makes the car look more attractive.
I personally love the factory hyper silver color for the ZCP wheels but they blended too much with my Silverstone car color, so got them powder coated in bronze satin finish, the contrast makes the car look cool! Previously had a Jerez black M3 and the Hyper silver wheels contrasted very well with the car color. .... just my opinion |

Silver always looks good. If they're all beat up, I'd mix it up with another color. If the wheels are in fine shape, I'd leave them be.
That said, mine were powder coated gunmetal. There are times I want the original/stock silver finish, but other times I love the gunmetal (usually when it's time to clean the brake dust). For now, these stay. |

I had mine painted a slightly darker silver... I like it.
Cheers,
