Battery shaking loose ... I think
Kinda self explanatory, I have tried reconnecting it several time at the terminals. Basically I will be driving, in New York mind you, hit a mega pot hole or general shitt road and I will get something along the lines of (ABS failure) light. It usually turns right back off but it's clear the battery had disconnected in the trunk. Once in a while, say bi monthly, I will go to my car..... it's dead.... I key access into the trunk, push the whole red terminal thing down and boom.... I have power.
It's seriously annoying... Ideas... anyone have a similar issue |

I have indeed done said tightening, also the battery is very locked into position and doesn't move, so I'm lost as to why it just kinda loses it on rougher terrain |

Just so there is no confusion: There is no U.S. recall for M3 models of the E9X for the battery cable.
EDIT 1/25/17: There is now a new BMW (U.S. at least) recall for the battery cable for E9X M3 models produced between December 1, 2009 and April 10, 2011. This latest recall is documented under BMW TSB: SIB612616. See this thread here for more details. In the U.S., owners whose E9X M3's were built before December 1, 2009 or after April 10, 2011 still have no recall coverage for this repair as they are neither included in the older non-M3 recall under SIB610213 nor this newer M3 specific recall under SIB612616. I believe it is the same problem as discussed here. In the second thread, you will find the part number of the repair set (it seems to be a well-known problem that has probably forced the recall or "Serienstandsverbesserung", as BMW calls a deliberate recall here). I do not think that the OP has a contact problem with the battery pole, that would be highly unlikely. People in germany have reported a total blackout which sometimes healed itself. When oxidation happens in the defective contact, that may be a symptom. In some cases, the juction box contact already had melted because of the bad contact and had to be replaced as well.

Oh, and BTW: Here is the SIB 610213 for the "non-existent" recall. It even covers repair work that have been carried out before the recall.

Not trying to be a jerk by restating this as I know you have a long history of helping others (myself included) with good info on this board, but I think you would agree it is important to have the most accurate info posted. I also understand E9X M3 owners can experience the same exact problem as non-M3 E9X owners with the positive battery cable from the trunk to the JBE. Having said all that, there is no recall for the positive battery cable repair from the trunk to the JBE in the U.S. for the M3 model. The U.S. BMW NA service bulletin you found (SIB610213) specifies models E82, E88, E89, E90, E91, E92 and E93 "Produced from March 2007 to October 2011 with option 823 (Hot climate version)" Option 823 wasn't an option number used or available for U.S. M3 models, so unfortunately the E9X M3 does not qualify for the recall, at least in the U.S.
To double check this, take a look at the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall document for NHTSA recall # 13V-044, referenced in the BMW NA SIB, here. Click the plus sign on the right, then click the blue text "23 Affected Products" to see that the only BMW models included in this recall for select years are the 128, 135, 328, 335 and the Z4. Thanks for the correction. After all, said recall document was from 2013, I have not found anything more recent than that.
The (silent) recall that is going on now in Europe is really fresh (I think they started only in November 2016), and it definitely affects M3s. It looks as if it is not a certain build date, but selective VINs, such that you have to ask for your car. My car (10/2011) was not affected while a friend's one (06/2011) was. It is probably correct that there is no formal recall in the U.S. - it is sometimes beyond me how BMW issues a recall in one area and not in the other, like with the current Takata airbag recall for M3s (which does not apply in Europe, fwiw). I only assumed that the U.S. was always preferred because of your more aggressive consumer protection, of which Dieselgate is a prominent example.

But I went back disconnected everything, cleaned the terminals, and reconnected making sure it's tight. No freak disconnects yet, but it was totally random when it does. Which makes it all the more frustrating

Seems like there is something going on in the U.S. now as well: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1340375
