Sorry I miss-read ... I will make a correction. Still you should try the paddles then (up and down shifting is real fun). You will get the hang of it just give it time.

Is the 1-2 shift really that bad in the M3? I've had 6MT in a 335 and a 328 and never had that issue. My only experience with an M3 was with the DCT, which I absolutely hated. The M3 I have on order, that I don't think will ever find a ship BTW, has a 6MT.

It is "notchy", as they say, but just give it some decent force to engage the gear and good throttle and it's no problem. Many have installed a weighted shifted (the new one from the 5 series work well) and prefer it to stock. I'll probably go that way eventually.

I notice that the True Age thread has made it up to the Sticky section. Thanks for posting in this thread, I think it makes for a good reference as to who we are posting to at times in this fine forum. Some time ago I suggested that we all find one nice picture of our ///M3 and add it to the post we made. Some of the ///M3 members have already done so. Perhaps if you have a nice photo you can post it as well on your post. Your post is on page 2 post # 35. I tried to send you a private message, however you apparently do not allow this. Have a wonderful and safe driving summer!

I love, love, love my 2011 M3 DCT coupe. It is my second and, so far, most awesome BMW. Although there is another 70 year old on the roster, his/her birthday is before mine so I guess I'll have to settle for third on the list. Last edited by chili555; 04-12-2013 at 06:56 PM.. |

Member: nuklball, Place of Birth: PA USA , True Age 46. Feels like 46 commuting on the train to work everyday, but much younger when I get in the M3 to drive it home. It's been a journey from Camaro ss (69), GTI's (84, 91), Lexus IS, RX8, Boxster, 911 cab, E46 m3 vert, E92 M3 coupe, E93 M3 vert. Can't complain!

It is a curious thing on this thread about people feeling "younger" when driving their M3. Who defines what "young" is, and what it is supposed to feel like? At 47, I am solidly entrenched into middle age, and am quite happy. Both my wife and I eat well, exercise regularly, and take good general care of our health. There is not much that I can't do now that I did when I was younger. Yes, it takes a little more time to recover from physical stressors, and I can't have sex 6 times a day anymore, but that's about it. I have much more knowledge, sense, confidence, wealth, experience, etc. in all aspects of life. I have no desire to be younger again.
Each age has its pros and cons. That's just life. Rarely (if you are lucky), you will have short periods in your life where everything is just right. Enjoy these times, but don't expect it to be the norm. At any given point in life, certain aspects of your life will be fine and others won't. A year from now, it could all be reversed. Enjoy each age for what it offers. Don't ever try to be a different age, just be the best you can be at your given age. My dad is 87. He is still ticking along. He spends all day talking about what an incredible journey his life has been. He is happy in that. At his age, it is the memories of the life he has already lived that is more significant than what is to come. And, FWIW, he has a cell phone, knows how to text, and surfs the web !!
