I'm thinking that it will be closer to $60k than $80k. I'm going to guess around $62k for a stripped E92 M3.

Yeah but even at $62k for the BASE, dealers aren't going to supply those unless you special order it and wait a couple months.

I doubt dealers will be bringing in stripped down E90/92 M3s their first year out.

Optioned and taxed will bring the car WELL over $62k.

How about $70k after taxes and options?

Ok, I agree with you, but I wasn't trying to speculate on what dealers will or won't bring in the first year. Besides, if you have your name on a waiting list you can order your car with whatever options or lack of options that you want. If you are waiting for an M3 to just be sitting on the showroom floor then you have a long wait ahead of you.

General consensus in the M3 board thread predicting the MSRP was sub-60k, or $59,990 tops.

I completely agree -- the base MSRP will not be over $60k...unless Bush drags dollar way down -- which is very possible with every new day he's in the office...

The dragging of the dollar will not affect the pricing of major imports like these (cars) this rapidly. Huge foreign companies which rely on good american consumerism, hedge their monetary investments so they won't be affected to much by moving currencies.

It's all about market share, if they increase the price to much on the M3 they will be pricing themselves out of the market. Seems to me that would be opposite of what they have been trying to achieve over the last decade or so.

The M3 has RS4 performance.

The price is going to be very RS4-ish.

I've seen many new RS4s for $75k after options.

Yeah... saw this on KTLA too, and responded on another thread.

It was 81k for the E90 M3, but consider that the E92 costs a few thousand more than the E90...

Performance-wise, the GT-R will be a better buy, but it's a Nissan and doesn't feel like a Bimmer.

True that 81k USD is not much compared to car in Europe, however, also consider that a fully loaded E92 335i is about 56k. That's 25k you can spend on mods (i.e. CF this, CF that, LM's, V2, JBS2R, whatever you like).

Who says? Add Premium/Sport/all the goodies! Furthermore, add tax and license and you are above that.

Also add the dealer mark-up for the first year or two.

Ah, OK, that is not (besides the inflation) one of the reasons M3 was $35k 15 years ago...

There is no way that you will be able to get a base M3 for $60k if the Euro goes way above $1.5...no way they would suffer with their margins selling the M3 for E40k.

Simply not possible...share or not share...margins would be hurting bad...

my lease is up in Nov. 2009, so my next purchase will probably be a second year 2010 GT-R.

I still say $70k+ after tax and options for the M3s.

Add to that a dealer mark-up and DCT/SMG/whatever-the-hell-you-wanna-call-it and I would say the $80k estimate isn't very far fetched.

surely, MSRP + options + tax = close and over $70k
Tax alone where you live would be $5k...

From the UK site, if you convert the base price in euros to USD, it is about 74k. That's bare bones.

WOW I can't wait to go to the LA Auto Show to check out the NEW M3. It's funny to see average people/non enthusiasts around the car speak their minds and listen to their opinions. They always think they know what their talking about and say ridiculous things.
