Performance Steering Wheel Owners: Alcantara ageing over time?
To those of you that have an OEM alcantara performance steering wheel, how has the condition held up over time? How has the alcantara held up to use and any sun damage?
Thanks!

Sun damage is never an issue, because you keep your car in covered parking or AT LEAST have a sun screen in the windshield.
The Alcantara held up fine to daily driving. I kept it clean with a damp microfiber or some mild cleaning solution.

I don't have one in the M3 yet,.. but the one in my ZHP held up fine for ~9 years before cracks started showing. I would just spray a suede cleaner meant for suede shoes - preferred the foaming type - before wiping off with a terry towel.

Steering wheel
18 months in and mine is starting to show a little age, but I try to clean it every 3-4 months and wear gloves for Track and AutoX. Using a toothbrush or detailing brush (after it's dry) fluffs up the material nicely.

Mine's 4-5 years old and still looks brand new. I use a soft toothbrush and leather cleaner every now and then. I also wipe it down with chemguys innerclean when I wash it. But mine doesn't sit in sun

Mine is six years old and slightly showing its age but no wear whatsoever. Slightly dull but nothing to stop it from rejuvenating with TLC. My car stays undercover 99% of the time because I leave it out for any dampness to dry out in case.

if not maintained regularly, it will show a little age.

I have had several alcantara wheels on my BMW's and it seems they last longer when you are sure to have your hands clean when you drive. My last ZCP M3 that was purchased used had the alcantara wheel and after 6 years looked terrible. No cracking but it looked as if someone had driven the car a lot with sweaty hands or used lotion. Keep them hands clean!
