I just bought the car less then a month ago but from what I know is the previous owner did proper warm up, didn’t take it to redline and changed oil at the bmw dealership (as far as he told me). It has Eisenmann Sport Exhaust.

Hello all,

Just picked up my E92, bought it with 88,000kms now at 91,500 ish or 56,855 miles. I knew this was an issue and wanted it to be the first set of "mods" or maintenance to the car because I intend to take it to the track on the 21st and drive hard.

Fortunately I did as I have GNARLY wear.

History is limited it on but some factors are:
1)Winnipeg MB car and winter driven. It gets super cold here like -40f/c

2) Castrol was used based on sludge in oil pan.

3) Plugs were done at 50k kms or so based on condition and aftermarket. (over torqued a few too)

4)Most shockingly my mechanic said the bolts on cap 4 were LOOSE.

Upper shells have the wear, some of the bottom shells look new.

Upper shells on all but 5 and 8 have chopper showing. Shells 2,4 and 7 have the most.

Thoughts?

ps

BE Bearings and bolts went in

Very little wear on a 2012 e90 M3 90k miles. Possibly done before? Just got the BE bearings and ARP kit.

Just picked the car up after getting BE connecting rod bearings and APR bolts installed. Bearings showed quite a bit of wear for 49K so I'm glad it's done; everything else looked great.

This was done at 101k miles the car was a one owner before me and had all its work done at the dealership he bought it from. The car is a 2008 e90 with Dinan underdrive pully, muffler, throttle bodies, intake and tune.

What rod barring issue???

2011 / 106000 km
Car is almost daily driver. I have it from new. Always used 10-60 original oil also in winter and sometimes it was really cold. But I always took care that I was not pushing it cold. I did my oil changes at around 15000km. For the first 2 years I was using 95 octane fuel and then switched to 98 or better.

The car was tracked a lot!

2011 E90 M3 Rod Bearings @ 37,450 Miles

Here are the rod bearings MRF pulled out of mine last Monday. I have only put around 12,000 miles on the car since taking delivery 7/31/17. I warm up slow (idling long enough for the tachometer to settle and the cold start routine to subside) staying around 3,000 RPM and no more than 40% throttle (20% maximum in first gear) until the needle hits the first tick on the gauge, then up to 4,000 RPM and 50% throttle, little more juice when the oil level sensor completes, and finally drive it like it should be driven after the needle gets to around 210F. Car is daily driven, parked in a garage at night, and as posted elsewhere I use an oil pan heater below about 25-30 degrees F. Oil for the first 7,000 miles was BMW MTwinPower Turbo 10w60 then over to Castrol TWS/Supercar 10w60 for the next 4,500 miles. Two UOAs of the BMW MTTP 10w60 are here https://www.m3post.com/forums/showth...310230&page=42. Of the 12,000 miles approximately 1,000 were on the track in temps between 30F up to 95F ambient. Car is stock and I track on MPS4's and Akebono Euro Ceramic pads, so I'm not wringing it out like the best on here, but I do push it pretty hard. Malek noted these are the bimetal bearings (Build date is 09/10) and that I was into the second layer with some pitting. Car is also a 6MT and the one discussed here https://www.m3post.com/forums/showth...1414718&page=2. Malek and MRF are absolutely the best and a pleasure to deal with.

Bearings

2011 E90 M3, 120,000 km's or 75,000 miles. Regular oil service every 5,000 to 7,500 km's since I owned it (May of this year), previous service was regular, oil changes no more than 7,500 miles. Vehicle has never been driven hard or tracked, just normal spirited driving from time to time.

They were definitely needing a change, went with BE bearings and ARP bolts done at Boost Theory in Oakville, ON.

Rod Bearings Example

2008 E92, 65,500 miles. Just purchased so cannot confirm previous driving habits, but oil was changed, per records, roughly every 10k miles. I also replaced engine mounts so included a pic. Seems the top bearings are more worn than bottom - was definitely good idea to replace them. A great shop in Willow Grove PA, Autobahn Motorsports did the job and I couldn't be happier with the service and turn around time.
